Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this.

Does VG currently generate the income to cover the converion costs? If not, would SOE be willing, in the state it's currently in, to invest fresh funds on the gamble that the game would find legs? Has this company's history with this game inspired any kind of confidence in you?

Would you want the game hacked up and sold back to you piecemeal, even if you already bought the box?

Do you, as a customer, trust anything SOE does or says?

I truly hope so.  I resubbed last night just to get a taste of the game again and while the core gameplay is still great, this game needs love and attention from devs as well as a nice healthy F2P population to play with to really make it shine.  Otherwise, this will probably be the last time I log into the game again, being as there wasn't anyone to really play the game with, chat with, etc.

If Vanguard goes f2p it might make as big a come back as DDO did going f2p.

  So many questions.

I think the overall answer(s)  in my mind are:

There is proof within the industry that f2p can work ( DDO, AOC, LOTRO )

There is proof within SOE's titles f2p can work ( eq2, CO, now Everquest )

Would you want the game hacked up and sold back to you piecemeal, even if you already bought the box?

I would keep my sub so it wouldn't matter.

I will believe it when i see it and I would love to see it !

 lol sorry about that :)

Indeed there is, it CAN work, but it is also expensive to implement and so it is a gamble, especially for a game with a small user base.

It is a gamble as to whether people would invest in this game under this model, and if SOE believed that a customer base for this game before why haven't they invested in attracting it already?

I find it hard to believe that it was the £2.50/ week price tag that kept a lot of folk out of this game... But then thats my view on the whole sub/ cash shop thing anyhow.

There is proof within SOE's titles f2p can work ( eq2, CO, now Everquest )

Well, EQ2 has a decent stable player base already and is obviously more attractive to the modern mainstream MMO er then VG, and it can obviously fund rthe conversion from it's profits. It's a different case then this tbh. EQ1 hasn't proved anything yet.

CO? You mean DCUO? Same as EQ2 really.

Would you want the game hacked up and sold back to you piecemeal, even if you already bought the box?

I would keep my sub so it wouldn't matter.

Well, you see, it would.

IN EQ2 I had bought the box and mot expansions and they STILL locked me out of races and classes (including exisiting characters) if I wanted to play for free and just buy the odd cosmetic.

I will believe it when i see it and I would love to see it !

Well, the fact they have doubled the team means you just might, though can I ask you... whats the main attraction of this to you? Saving you £2.50/ week? fresh players? the opportunity to shop for stuff rather then play for it?

Why is F2P so desirable for you?

And you didn't answer my other question... do you trust anything SOE say or do?

Personally I hate the pay to achieve cash shop model... I find it, especially in SOE's case, expensive to unlock elements I should already have access to as a box buyer and restrictive in the extreme. SOE love cash shops because it's pure profit... it's fast to produce and uses minimum rescource and exploits impulse buying to the full with a hidden overall cost. All this at yours and the game's expense.

I would rather they spend the money on a real expack and a mini relaunch for the game, giving previous players a free month to come back. It would bring as many in IMO, and in the long run be far far better for the game.

it would be good just to get players into the game. That's the main reason I havent returned, everywhere I read shows almost no one playing this game. Not just these forums but on the official forums.

and yet when the game was 100% free because SOE gave everyone 40 days away and a load of people went back people still didn't stay.

Yes.

This constant bickering that Vanguard would be helped by F2P is just extremely annoying, because there is zip to it.

Vanguard is low population - and while the people staying there are very happy as they play the best MMO to date, I dont think anything can still be done about the population issue.

When I came back in August 2010, I couldnt do "./who all count" on Telon (its limited to 200 people countet maximum), and Halgar had still a douzen or so player on.

Now there are at most 5 people on Halgar, and "./who all count" on Telon works all the time (60-160 players).

Great,so it shouldn't effect you or bother you what happenes with Vanguard, right. If it grows with FTP or does not, it really makes no differance to you because you won't be playing it.

No point even talking about the game in threads like this. You can go and never have to talk or post in another Vanguard thread again, right?

We who still play it our happy something is on it' Vanguard.

Yep I would jump straight on, have resubbed once or twice in the past but the lack of people makes it less fun. Hopefully the restrictions they put on it won't be too harsh.

Theres a difference between F2P and 40 days free, enough of one to deter a potential player

I do hope that VG will be next. This game is one of my saddest experince. Such a waste of greatness :)

And I dont blame SOE/MS or Sigil for droping the ball. Its just sad :
