I was a long time WoW player (it being my first true mmo) and was looking for a different game.  For a while a bounced from game to game seeking something new but couldn't seem to find anything I stuck with because I was so use to WoW.  I ran accross Vanguard and thought it was very impressive but with the lack of players and commintary from the dev's, I decided to not invest to much time because who want to invest time into a toon only to have the entire game pulled out from under your feet. (That was a year ago today).  Anyway, after hearing about upcoming updates (which for me anyway, meanes at least the devs are looking at the game), inspired me to take another look.  I got a few friends and myself to try it last weekand and to my supprize their were people all over the place on the starter isle.  Is Vanguard making a slow (and I meane SLOW) recovery?

Starter isle is always full of people. I don't want you to be too optimistic, VG is surely not going under any comeback or anything, it is what it is, a beatiful game noone wants to play except me and a few others. Better to be realistic right from the start, than getting disappointed. There is enough people if you actively seek groups, but don't expect to meet players all over the place.

REALITY CHECK

Pink, it's like red but not quite.

I think SOE realized the title would be worth more to them with a little love from time to time.

Yet to be seen if they've commited to maintaining that.

Too old for this, am I.

Just by reading alot of posts on these forums, it is prolly just people coming back to the game, you know the ones that always say "if it would get dev support I would play it".  Well SOE has now given Vanguard a Dev team instead of an EQ2 team that would only work on it when they weren't busy.  At FanFaire this year they said that there would be 2 big updates for Vanguard by then end of the fiscal year (I think that is around April).  I don't play Vanguard regularly but I think they have already had one of the updates.  I may have to log in again and check it out also.

The game has a great old school feel. Great pve..fantastic crafting...housing....BUT no support but words as far as I can see....and no faction conflict.Which is the one element I need to keep me in a game....for years.

It's bait 'n switch, they just want to keep "interest" at a steady level without putting resources or real time into it, for a larger "pure profit" margin at minimal investment. As long as it's directly "in competition" with EQ2 it will never get what it needs.

No the game is dead and has been dying for years with server mergers to try and hide the almost continous loss of players.  By todays standars Vangaurd is nothing special graphically, gameplay elements are all very dates, and bugs from release still exist. There is minimal to no dev support (less the SWG and we all know wht happened to that game) its a game totally on station pass life support

SOE lies though, do I really need to give examples?

I played Vanguard from the start. I even paid for 2 x year subs beacause I thought this would be the game I played for a long time, and don't get me wrong, I actually loved the game for a while, especially the diplomacy game.

But the only reason I left was... I hated the graphics. It was far too realist. Not enough colour. I know, a silly reason I know but that's what put me off. If it had been a bit more colorful who knows, I might still be there.. :)
