The way they have it is fine, up until level 51+ that is. It is rediculous how much exp you get once you reach level 51. When you're killing 3 dot level 50 monsters at level 50 and getting a rate of 30-50k exp per kill right when you hit that 51 mark you're going at a rate of 5-10k exp per kill. If you've compare this with leveling from 45-50 the exp drop rate isn't as steep as they've put it. So you're stuck with trying to find group content for better exp. That leaves you with pretty much 3 level 51+ areas to find groups, but then when people have their "group" that they've always play with, it gets really tough. Once you start doing the 51+ content its a whole new ball game, if not properly geared you'll basically die in less than 5 hits. Finding a group to do content is already a tough thing to do. So I just craft to kill the time. |

Pfft. Yeah, sure, thats how hard Vanguard was before ... Yesterday was the first time I could just '/who all count' on Telon to get the total number of players (including IoD). On a sunday. :-(

Part of the reason I ejoyed VG was because of the challenge and fear of death when I went out roaming the world. Sony proves again all they give a shit about is money. Zero interest in VG anymore, in fact zero interest in anything Sony :-) "Mom, I play Tera for the gameplay I swear!!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-2paFdRw_U |

Sony has proven again that their a a douchbag company only in it for $$ "Mom, I play Tera for the gameplay I swear!!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-2paFdRw_U |

i never understand why people complain about makin the levelling quicker...if you have played the game since release then you probably have all the chars you want at max lvl anyways..if not vanguard gives you an ability which allows you to turn off the xp...sometimes there is just no pleasing some people.loads of peeps have been crying out for VG to get some attention, now it has you should be glad.imo this is still the best mmo on the go even though i dont sub anymore.but i will say this i am happy for the players that are gettin the update, they deserve it for what those guys have been thru with SOE and its blatant disregard for them.gl to all you guys who play VG i say..hope the update is a good one. |

The game is probably not even turning a profit as it is, hence the threat of closing it down until recent changes at SOE. You cannot expect them to keep the game the same if it isn't able to stand up on it's own with the current style of gameplay. You guys are so completely unrealistic about what a company is willing to tolerate in regards to income levels, especially from a big company like SOE. The only way you would see that kind of support for a project like VG, would be from an Indy company that had very little overhead / money invested into the game in the first place.
Personally, I can't believe they didn't gut the game a long time ago. They've waited far too long and it's now far too late to turn it around with the current and upcoming offerings in the genre. I'm sure they're trying to use it as a stopgap for the upcoming EverQuest Next, that won't be out for another two or three years at the earliest. I have a hard time seeing this become a successful venture this late in the cycle. |

Originally posted by Adamantine Are you seriously conflating time sinks with difficulty? I thought that gamers had learned the difference between the two by now. Reducing the amount of time required to retrieve your corpse doesn't make the game easier; it simply makes the game take less time. Reducing the amount of XP needed to level doesn't make the game easier; it simply makes the leveling process (which is a barrier to experiencing content) take less time. Increasing the amount of loot dropped by mobs doesn't make the game easier; it simply makes overcoming the content already in the game more rewarding. You know what makes the game hard? The actual content. If you're dying, then you're either bad or the content is adequately challenging. If the content makes you think about what abilities you need to use and examine your surroundings and positioning, then the content is adequately challenging. Better mob AI and more complex encounters are what you want. If they were removing or reducing these, then they'd be making the game easier. Removing time sinks from the game is not the same thing. |

All investors care about IS making money. OP:
I read about this game way back and it sounded interesting. After the botched release I decided to stay away. I did try it for like a week and there was NO one playing it and got boring fast.
I feel the reason they did this was to get the newer players closer in level and gear to the active players and have a chance of attracting newer players.
If people wanted to play a single player game there are plenty out there and this at least could give newer players a chance to find the active player bsae sooner. What did you think they made the company to try and find some small niche group of people to entertain and the investors will just subsidise the losses?

Originally posted by Ethian I didn't know that gaming companies were in business for just appreciation, friendship and kind words. That is not going to pay the bills. But yes money surely will. Every company is in for money just that they spend what their pocket allows them. How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release? ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6. Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs. |

You guys need to read between the lines here. What do most of these content updates do? Make it more accessible to the masses. While the Vanguard core fanbase likely won't like them, features such as corpse run removal will greatly increase it's accessibility for people who have not played Vanguard, or have not experienced something like corpse runs before. Remember, a game mechanic like that is as foreign as life on other planets for people who started with WOW or EQ2 type mmo's. So why would they want to make all these changes to make it more accessible to new people? And haven't they been talking about what appears to be a big announcement about Vanguard and it's future plans soon? FTP is written on the walls folks, you just need to look. No way are they shutting this thing down now, their roster is dwindling as it is - The Matrix Online gone, SWG gone, Free Realms a dead fish in the water basically, The Agency cancelled, DC Universe a total flop. Vanguard will have new life - mark my words. |

What people ? New people play SW:TOR and stuff ... Last sunday, even less population was around than ever before. It might be because I've been early, but I lost motivation quickly.
