Originally posted by Painlezz I've played both and cannot make the connection. It might have been your graphics settings though and both of the character models do have a plastic look to them. The scenery itself is vastly different, I don't believe EQ2 ground textures measure shadow. From a gameplay aspect they are even more different and is a better answer to your question. EQ2, like many MMOs, is on rails. Each of it's zones is themed and whether you quest through or kill grind you are taken from x level to x level along the same path. Vanguard can produce this same linear feature if you keep following the same questline but allows the option of going to another location within the same levels, it's one big world. Instead of a line with many points imagine a satellite system of questlines throughout each of the three continents. Along the way you will see dungeons with group content should you want to group up. With the advent of rift stones it's even easier to get from one starting place to another. Dangit!... I'll be seeing you guys tonight... |

Originally posted by Painlezz Hey Painlezz, When this game was in development I said the EXACT SAME THING! Seriously. Then one of the cm's or dev's came to the boards and said "no, don't worry it doesn't look like EQ2. And you know what? ONce you get in the game you can see it doesn't. But yeah, I said the exact same thing from the screens they were showing. The thing is, EQ2 has more of a whimsical feel. When you get into Vanguard you realize that it doesn't have this feel. |

I liked MMOs better when gamers didn't play them, and just geeks did. |

I've played pretty much every MMO out there over the last 14 years, but always passed on Vanguard. Well I fired up the trial a couple of days ago and I must say, it's growing on me. As an EQ1 player from 1998-2001, VG feels more like the sequel to Everquest than EQ2 does.
I'm a big screenshot guy, so I'll have to take a few and post them here later.

While we're on the subject of graphics, did the character models ever get restored to their original/release level of detail? I recall them tweaking things a few years ago, but it just wasn't the same. I figure our hardware should have caught up by now. |
