Hello MMORPG community, I absolutly love this game, everything about it. My only problem is, I can never find a class to play. Could anyone help me out? I love buffer classes. I love the class that buffs people and helps allies. I don't feel like playing a healer, nor do I feel like playing a tank. I want to play a DPS that is pivitol due to its buffs. If anyone could help me, that would be great! Talint |

I would say play a bard , tons of song buffs , and dps should fit you well .

Thanks much. I have a few more questions about the Bard. The bard uses Ranged weapons correct? Also, what's the best race for a Bard? And lastly, I keep reading that everyone got 45 days free. How do I see if I got 45 days for free?
Talint
Ah dang.. looks like I missed the free 45 days. |

Bards are bad with ranged weapons, they only can use the most simple ones (Short Bow and Light Crossbow), just like Rogue and Paladin (the later doesnt even get a weapon skill and only got the ability to use these years after the game was published). Dread Knight gets better ones (Longbow and Heavy Crossbow), but the best ranged weapons (Warbow and Arbalest) are reserved for Warrior and especially Ranger (who also makes their own, superior arrows and bolts). Bards use ranged weapons almost exclusively when soloing tougher mobs. In group, or against lesser opponents, they use melee and have a lot better damage this way.

Low defines an evaluation, not a fact, unless you compare it to a standard. Compared to the most populated MMORPGs in the market, Vanguard has a low population, I agree with that. But the actual population (on Telon) is more than enough to find people to chat and group with basically all day, since both euro and US players are there. Scaring a new player saying the pop is low may get him thinking the game is a ghost town, which is actually not true. Unless you hold a share in a sofware company, the only population you should care about is the one sufficient to enjoy the game's content.
No offense meant with the trolling thing tho :) |

Originally posted by Hyrim Considering the fact they only have 2 severs now, one for the us, and one for eu. They used to have 8, actually during its prime they had 28 servers. Fact soe own status page http://www.soe.com/status/ always shows the population for vanguard as low. Now while you might be able to chat with folks the fact remains that not many folks are playing. Soe is trying to turn that around.

I think only the worst fanboy would say that Vanguard population is not low. ha is, so to speak, a no brainer. What I wanted to stress is that, while we can argue here for hours about the game population, I think that, as of today, as a new player you can play the game and enjoy it quite well. The population is low, but not so low that you never find groups. Ironically, the lack of endgame additions in the last year and the vast game world made many people reroll a lot of alts. As a consequence of this, it is easier to find a low level party in Vanguard than in most aging MMORPGs, where everyone is grinding raids and such.

OMG ! A game that is down to 2 servers and does NOT have "high population" marker on them ? A trivial scale such as "high", "medium" and "low" obviously wont say much about the conditions in the game. Telons population seems pretty fine at the moment. Its 200-500 players at good playing times, so even people without a guild should have an easy time to get a group if they are level 20+ and know how to use the social tools. Halgar however is right now down to 20-40 people, and a majority of them are in one and the same guild. I heard rumors though that a second guild wants to move to Halgar. |

I started a trial today and there have been lots of new players running around 24/7. Finding a guild is easy and finding help is quick. If your shallow and need hundreds of thousands playing your game then that's you. If you enjoy good games then there's no problem here. |

reverting back to the question from the original post. i'd say bard for melee types and either a psi or necro for caster. since both have crucial buffs for groups/raids and each can put out damage. Oh Druids are also very buff heavy with berrys etc... classes that don't have buffs are war's rogues disc monks dk |

I dont see how Sony is any more horrible than the other AAA developers. All of them have ruined and dumbed down what could have been great MMO's. Sony has helped VG by rescuing it from Sigil and then not touching it. The best thing about VG is lack of development (aka dumbing down).
To the OP: yeah, bard(buffs) or psionist (control class and dps) |

When I used to play, I chose the Cleric. Great buffs, good amount of melee and spells mixed. Felt more like a Warrior Preist. I would surely still play that game if the pop. wasn't so low. |

Psion, Druid great buffers lots of DPS and crowd control, great soloability. Bard crowd control + passive buffs, lots of melee dps, extremly low survivability and terrible solo.

My Cleric has ~450 flying speed (with the low "young" Griffon, the improved version is even faster), so if speed is all you're after, you rather need a flying mount ...
