I looked through the first 5 pages of these forums and saw nothing about PvP.  I searched for any topic with PvP in the subject and absolutly nothing.

What's the deal with PvP in VG?  Does it exist?  If so can you give a brief breakdown of how it's implemented in the game?

The capability for pvp exists and from what I understand there is an arena or area of some sort where one might be able to pvp but Vanguard is not really a pvp game.

Having said that, when the game was first launched there were pvp servers, one with faction based and one with ffa. If memory serves.

If you are looking for a pvp game, this is not the game. It has essentially evolved into a pve game. Where one might be able to find pvp "some place".

IT had team and FFA PvP servers, then they merged them and made it FFA.....Then they announced they would not deal with PvP issues until PvE was 'fixed'....Which mean at no time in the near future.  Age of Conan was coming out and the pvp servers kind of emptied out....That was the end of a server rule set.

I left VG towards the end of that.  I was not a huge PvPer, but I enjoy all aspect, and I didn't like the aspect of transfering to a PvE server, and the lack of updates/devs working on the game made it seem grim.

I hope they truely are going to start doing a lot with the game, I may come back, if so.  I would love to eventually see a PvP server come back.

No PvP in Vanguard. All you can do is consensual PvP and you wont get a reward for that other than "you won".

There is an arena but to my best knowledge you will be completely alone there.

Also, the PvP combat apparently sucks in the first place. I read that multiple classes can oneshot certain other classes.

PvP wasn't too bad in VG, but it got silly when they did some PvE patches, and broke it, hence they decided it would be too difficult for them to 'fix' PvE, and keep PvP balanced also.

The druid was the class that was overpowered when I left, you could macro 2 keys and almost kill anyone in the blink of an eye....Some classes could defend if they had warning you were going to attack and use some abilities to stop the quick kill.

It was never the most balanced thing ever, but it wasn't any worse than most games, before they did some changes that screwed it up.

PvP was a big reason I stayed with Vanguard as long as I did back during the first year.  It was fun as heck, open world FFA PvP, something lacking in today's MMO's.  And the server was jam packed during the first 5 months, and it was some crazy fun.

Unfortunately like everything else about Vanguard, PvP never fully matured.  Brad McQuaid lied about what he was going to do with PvP, he said they were going to have battlegrounds, ship vs ship combat, and PvP rewards.  They rushed PvP out of the door to draw the PvP crowd, it worked and they made sales off it.  But they never did much more for PvP, and it slowly died off.

It's too bad, I would've probably stayed longer if they supported PvP gameplay more.  They spent 2 years developing, fixing, and modifying the game engine, code, graphics, quests, etc.. but didn't do much for PvP.
