How is the leveling pace in the game.. compared to lotro?

I'm trying to decide on what to play for the next few months and it comes down to lotro or vanguard.

What are the big differences?  Raiding has never been my thing (can't dedicate so many 'X' hours to raid on a given night, then again, doubt i'd be playing for more than a few months. 

Every night I say I'm going to log onto lotro and lvl, but I log on, do 3 quests, and log off. (Currently 26atm).. Really just want to experience endgame and the world/housing/PvMP.....

Lots of classes, lots of race, giant world, deep gameplay systems, can't speak so much for the content as I've not seen all of it. Friendly community, promise of updates (?).

Thanks for all the replys, sounds like a great game that was botched at launch by the publisher/developers...as usual.

I think if they had a lower subscription or a trial period I would try it again.

Just dont feel like paying $9-$14 for MMOs anymore.....money is tight atm.

I havn't played since launch,and yes it is of course like EQ2,since it is the same devs that worked on it.Sigil games is former Soe staff.

The why design of VG,was to make EQ2 but a tad better.They added the card game[diplomacy] cool idea i thought and made the world more wide open.Instancing imo cheapens a game,it does have it's place,but an open world is the proper way to go.Vanguard also has a larger viewscape to enjoy those great graphics.

Grouping in an mmo,this seems to be a common complaint,i just don't understasnd it,it is SUPPOSE to be a MMO ,not a single player game.

Sigil didn't design this game around 2oo subscriptions ,they hoped for alot of players and imo the game deserved it.It is not the games design fault that there isn't enough players to steadily form groups with.Thisis the reason i don't play and same reason i left AOC,not enough players.But i won't lie and say the games are bad,they just don't have the player base.

Honestly when i look at the whole picture  ,which is MMORPG gaming,there is far too many people that do not belong in a MMO.I would say 80% of the total MMO populace is single player gamers,that just want in on the MMO experience,but really are not mmo gamers.

VG is a VERY good game and it IS a MMO,expect that from this game,but do not expect a lot of players.

This leveling only via groups  MYTH is simply not true. You can level to 50 and there is a solo dungeon at 50+. In fact, i have 6 characters, 48/37/22/18/11/16 ( been playing on and off for years ) and there are still solo areas i have not seen.

Most of my gameplay is solo.

I believe if Vanguard launched as it is today, it would not have flopped.

It has a huge, emersive, non instanced world.

It has huge non instanced dungeons, that some would argue are some of the best in the industry.

There are alot of things to do in the game other than questing.

Vanguard is all about the journey, not about rushing to level cap. It was intended to be a true mmoRPG

You can't journey if you don't have people to play with. Vanguard need a REVAMP and a new release. Vanguard would be a great game if they do something like ArenaNet is doing with Guild Wars 2, Dynamic events,action combat, WvWvW PvP, better graphics etc etc.

It's falling, in its current state. If they gave me vanguard now, i could do so much to improve it or if they sell it to ArenaNet.

I love Vanguard, the only thing that sucks is the low population. I recently fired up my account to spend the 46 free days and I have most of my characters on Halgar the EU server and the population is 15-30 people at prime time, which is just ridiculous.

Maby beacuse most of us transfered to Telon.

Err ... I would never start a character on anything but the Isle of Dawn.

I have no idea why it would be a "terrible lore" place. It has its own lore, which is good, gives great equipment, gives a great start into diplomacy and crafting, and most importantly it gives you an uber item that makes crafting much easier and much less painful.

Also, its more challenging than the racial starter places and you're capped on level 10, which gives you a first "endgame" experience where you really can work on getting the best equipment for your level. On a Paladin or Dread Knight the final dungeon on IoD then actually turns easy. Yeah I know you level it out again very quick, but its fun.

I play on Halgar. When I started it was really empty but its getting slowly more population.

I would never move to Telon simply because the ping is bad. Ping is important to me, for one of the advantages of Vanguard is great raiding.

Vanguard has absolutely amazing graphics. I'm always stunned again whenever I use my flying mount, or when I use first person.

You need the hardware for it, though.

You may contact their technical support and they will transfer your chars from EU to US. Pings are between 120-250,

Haha so the problem isn't with the game, it's shitty mechanics or it's bad game design. No! The problem is with the players, you see, 80% of them are playing the wrong games!

I'm sure that most games that flop are made by people that believe 80% of their potential customer base shouldn't be actually paying them lol.
