I was in beta back in 2005 till launch and I was so excited at that time for this game. It is so huge... It has so much to do... It has so many things that people are begging for from unreleased mmo's.

We all know what happened with the launch.

I dropped VG over 3 years ago now in anger, alway's thinking about what it could have been and cursing the the bad management of this jewel of an MMO.

And now after I have laid this game to rest... I have you people coming here and posting about what a great game VG is and how you are having so much fun.

Tempting me to come play again.

Curse you

To the caterpillar it is the end of the world. To the master, it is a butterfly.

Ive been having fun. I am lvl 8 and almost ready to leave the isle.

Alot of depth in the game.

If EQnext can have this much depth plus, well watch out everyone.

To the caterpillar it is the end of the world, to the master, it is a butterfly.

I must admit, I did not expect this after reading the title.

don't think about coming back, come back for free.

if you had an account, and havent played since the security fubar, you have 45 days for free.

i just started mine, but i think they are going to disappear soon if you dont login.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Currently Playing EQ2, TERA
Liked but retired: EQ1,SWTOR, FFXI, WoW, POTBS, Aion, L2, Eve, Rift, atlantica, Darkfall, though i felt it needed tweaks
Looking forward to: World of Darkness, TERA, Gw2, Titan

Recommendation of a game you probably haven't tried: POTBS, Atlantica, L2

I've been pondering over that. But it's summer and I don't play much this time of year, too many rl things to enjoy. Guess I better check to see when that free time expires so I dont lose it.

Yep I also came back with my 45 free days pass, and when those days are up i will resub to VG.

I got burnt so much with the latest special olympic games of late, RIFT,STO,WAR ect, VG acual gives you a challenge even with the lowly quest, the mobs hits hard the dungeons are fun and hard, the world is imo still good looking, crafting is still the best and the diplomacy is always fun.

MMO's today is all about hype and box sales not an actual good product that last

Interesting, just checked my account to find 45-days on both Vanguard and EQII.  So how does this work, like are the 45 days already being counted down, or do they start when I log in?

Very nice...I'll admit all this talk has also been tempting me, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to start a sub or not yet.  Suppose this will help me decide then.

The time starts when you login. However you only have until August 31st to login and get your free time before the offer ends.

That is something that SOE didn't state that you only had until end of August to pick those 45 days up, for their mess of security.

I recently re-downloaded the game and am currently playing. Have a lvl 15 DK and having a blast. Forgot what it was like:

  • Just explore. Have no dumb linear content telling me where to go next.
  • To actually have to hunt around for quest mobs/locations. While some quests do show up on your map as to where to go next, many don't and you have to figure out where to go.
  • Non-instance dungeons that actually make you think if you want to survive.

So yes, enjoying it again... so far.

Hrm, well this is odd...finally after 6hrs, I have the client DL'd and fully updated.  It says its done, but the button that would normally bit lit up green with "Play" is still grey and saying its updating!  I've tried restarting the client multiple times, doing a full file check and even clicking the small text 'download' above the bars keeps DLing the same few files, but nothing ever happens!

Am at a loss...

Try deleting the cache folder. ( i had same problem and this fixed it ).

It is located at <vanguard Install directory>/bin/caches

Whack it ( or rename ) and re-run patcher.

For people who like to know where quests are, the social tool can give you some hints about it.

More importantly its very essential to get groups in such a huge gameworld.

Having a blast with VG here as well. I plan to stick with it until something newer worth my time comes out...which likely won't be for years. GW2 and TOR seem the same old bs with a different twist. Thank god VG is still around and doing well or I likely wouldnt be playing MMOs at all right now

I tried VG several times, each times i quit within a month not because the game was bad but because it felt like a was playing a single player game.
