I have to say I'm enjoying VG so far. I'm about 6 days into my trial and almost ready to leave the island. My only concern is I've always enjoyed pvp and VG offers none. Open world pvp gives me a sense of excitement when I'm running around not knowing if I'll come across an enemy player at some point. With VG you never come across players to fight, you simply find mobs to fight.

My problem is I'm not sure whether to invest time in VG because I may get bored of the lack of any sort of pvp. But on the other hand if the pve is fun, exciting, and dangerous I'm sure i can look past the fact that VG has no pvp.

Also world exploration...I still havent been able to find out if there are items to find around the world through exploration in VG other then mobs. I understand we can explorer for hours in VG because the world is so big but exploring to simply take in the sceenery and hunt bosses for more epic loot. Are there chests to find in remote areas, or rare harvesting nodes to find? If  exploration  can lead to finding a hidden chest or possibly a remote island with rare nodes I will sub tonight. Otherwise roaming the world looking for bosses and sight seeing may get old for me.

Cancel my RIFT sub and move to VG? That is the question.

chests - i dont think so

rare nodes - yes, but i am not quite sure if they dont load in more or less static places (like 1 out of 5 possible nodes around or someth like that, but i am more or less newbie in vg :) )

Well ... bosses of course drop special stuff, with a chance.

There is not much with chests, really.

Sources for items are:

- random drops: those are usually only blue (uncommon), on low levels even green (common) or white (nonmagic).

- boss mobs: blue, yellow (rare), or really tough ones even orange (ultra rare). The better drops are often soulbound.

- questlines: those give fixed items. Some quest rewards are already red (legendary), even for quite early questlines like Infineum mines.

- raiding: in case you get a raiding guild, you may gain access to the best items in the game. All of them are red - and some of them are even violett (fabled).

- crafting: no longer a valid source for the best items, but still a nice way to get quite quickly up to ultra rare gear for levelup.

IMO the coolest thing about exploring is you find quest hubs, dungeons that you think are just a hole in the wall, stuff like that. You won't see the whole game by being led by the nose. You have to explore to find a lot of the cool stuff.

Sounds like alot of fun, but are most of these dungeons even soloable? My only concern with exploration in a full PvE mmo such as VG is that I'll spend most of my time ingame running around the world with no set goal other then to sight see or find new mobs to fight.

Also can anyone fill me in on how fishing and sailing works in VG? Are both of these activities usefull in any way or are they both more of a time-sink?

A good amount of them are, play a good solo class like the disciple and you can solo probably some group-oriented dungeons. As far as exploring you can usually find a quest givers you otherwise wouldn't come across just following major quest hubs and good harvesting spots. You can sometimes find a good amount of quests by just finding interactable objects as well, or you might come across treasure chests in dungeons.

I actually haven't done any fishing myself, but sailing looks like it's just a form of fast travel. Probably useful in Kojan, and along the beach of the other 2 continents where there is lots of islands to check out. I haven't been able to get a boat for myself yet though, very expensive.

So there are things to interact with aruond the world? I've been trying to find out about hidden things around the world such as chests and havent found any info.

I've heard that fishing in deeper waters in your boat also gives better rewards compared to fishing on land.

Argh crafting is no longer a good source of good items eeek I have like 6 crafters in VG. If I come back I was thinking of continuing I have them all at around level 36 or so. So the items they make even if I get the token for the rare recipes are no use ?

Oh yea plenty of interactable items and what-not in the game. I don't think they have sparkles/glitters to make them stand out easily though. I've picked up a good amount of quests though from stuff on the ground or in a building though.

Someone also asked earlier if there were treasure chests, I dont know if that was answered yet, but yea i've definently come across several chests in dungeons. Haven't seen any outdoors though, except for the ones on the Isle of Dawn I think.

For all I know, chests in Vanguard are purely decorative.

Maybe a Rogue player would know more ?

About crafting, its still the only source for many important items, like ships, horseshoes etc.

You still need it for APW stuff, too.

But I dont know how important it is for the new stuff.

i have found chests in the racial starter areas and in a few random places. but they often just contain coin and potions. nothing to get hyped about.

as for crafting its quite useful and with the whole 'writ' system you can level up w/o having to harvest or use all your own mats.
