I know it sounds dumb to play an MMO alone but thats what I like. I like the trading and pvp part of MMOs but not the grouping to do a dungeon. Anyway, I was wondering if this game was any good to play solo.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

like most mmo's, solo'ing is typically available aplenty for the bulk of the leveling process.  At max level however, most content is focused on raids which require grouping.

With Vanguard, there are multiple regional open "raids", the original public quest if you will that will pit you against elites and bosses... you are also competing against other groups/guilds since they are open - EQ style which i like... competition for resources that force pvp - still waiting on that mmo..... i digress... vangaurd will bore you if you avoid the grouping for these open raids.... they make the game how great it is/was for the above reasons.

tldr: VG really isnt the solo experience you are probably looking for.

try Age of Conan or Rift imo.

there isnt much pvp in the game unfortunately

I would strongly suggest you ask around in chats for a guild or at least someone to play with, vanguard can be soloed but the game is a lot more fun when you run the dungeons, which are awesome.

there seem to be a lot of guilds willing to just have members and be friendly .. allowing for you to more easily find groups with .. without expecting much from you other than you are nice and maybe help out a little .. but not required.

LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already :)

Hmm, my next question was going to be "Does anyone play this still?" but from the quick response (under half an hour) from everyone people must be playing. I'm going to give it a shot! Thank you for the input all!

VG is not a solo friendly game. and shines mostly in group but you have solo content all the way till 50 at least...

add diplomacy to it which is obviosly done solo..u have lot of things..

Disciple is the class u will have to choose if u want to play solo all the way through....rest mostly will be kicked around at mid -higher levels

Make a disciple and you can do a lot on your own if you desire.

That is what I read in other forums. I kinda searched for a race that would match up well with that but the information is pretty dated I found. Any suggestions?

I picked Kojani Humans for my disiple. Human races allow you more flexibility with spending your attribute points, so rather than picking a race like elves or Raki which automatically distribute about 4 points or so into certain stats, you can put those points in more important stats.

Kojani humans also get a pretty good racial ability, heals I think half of you or your targets hit points instantly. Might be a little redudant being a healer class and all, but it has saved me on several occasions.

Not that the other races aren't perfectly good choices as well, but thats what and why I went with a human.

Since we're on the topic. How does a cleric compare to a disciple soloing? I've heard disciple does more dps, but I'm assuming clerics can stay alive longer in a fight due to the heavy armor and good heals. Can both classes take on the same tougher mobs or is one better suited for killing bosses solo over the other?

Definitely not.

Disciples >> Clerics when solo.

1. Disc buffs suck, but that matters less when solo, and there they have endowments.

2. Disc has less defense than Clerics, yes. But unlike Clerics, they have an "endless" mana supply. Clerics will run into trouble against hard bosses because their strength are strong heals, but their mana is limited.

3. Disc has a lot more offense than Clerics, meaning the opponent is dead much faster.

4. Disc has Fake Death.

In the sum, there is hardly any situation where Cleric is better than Disc as long as we talk soloplay.

Raki. Reason you ask? Because they're the most awesome race in the game, that's why!

What other classes have Feign Death?  And how do those other classes that have Feign/Fake death compare to the disciple when it comes to soloing?

The Fake Death specialist is Monk, the second worst of all solist classes after Warrior.

The other two Fake Death classes are Necromancer and Disciple, which are both great solists.
