Our first episode is up!  Full details and the direct download link can be found HERE.  The RSS Feed is also available, and it'll make it to iTunes as soon as I can wrestle Apple into line.

Full show notes and such are available at the link of course.  Comments, feedback and such are welcome, and can be left here or on the post over at MMOAxis.  Hate mail will be gleefully mocked in episode 2.

Obviously you missed the interview posted on Massively about SOE talking about doing new updates for VG .

listening now nice to see you doing all that you are doing for VG , I am doing my part by playing the game, cant let one of the few good games left sink furthere than it already has.

I have to disagree. SOE owns Vanguard outright, but had to buy the license to it. I see that no way have they made back their investment yet. I think they will continue to run it on autopilot to keep milking money out of it until at least the launch of something like PS2.

I saw a guy wearing a t-shirt that read "I'm with Stupid" . . . he was alone.

Well, I'm almost through the podcast.

I really enjoyed the talk and my hope is that going forward, the discussoin can be just as interesting and engaging.

In some ways it was a shame that the podcast was done before the the announcments because some of the discussion, especially the talk about vangaurd adopting f2p didn't quite freel as fresh because we know that it's not under the table.

still, it's not a "never" type of thing just a "not on the table type of thing". so I guess that is my rebuttal to myself.

Looking forward to more.

edit: ah go to the end and heard the addendum.

The way the news broke left us in the unfortunate position of having a good chunk of our discussion invalidated, so I felt compelled to record the epilogue, and rushed when it came to getting the time-consuming editing done.  Still, I thought the show turned out great.  We're already in discussions for planning episode 2.

The game is great, the podcast is all right, however, I wonder where the eternal optimism is coming from to claim it has 10-15k subs. Pretty much, everyone who is playing VG right now, or played recently, knows the game is struggling with around 2k exlusive subs (plus a few hundred from soe station).

I did essentially admit that that number was pulled down out of thin air during the show.  Still, guessing is guessing. And bear in mind that the show, overall, is meant to be optimistic in tone.  It's not a news show but a fan show.

In podcast-related news, the show's been submitted to iTunes, and should be available there soon.  When is anybody's guess, really, but it shouldn't be more than a few days.

Yeh, it's an estimate, however, quite an accurate estimate derived from x-fire figures (40 hours per day by average), given the x-fire sample size (which estimation is based on comparison of other games with known subscribtion figures) you get an estimated result of about 2500 active players - which then translates into about 2000 exclusive VG subscribers by taking into account station pass players and trial players.

I guess you can object to the quality of the x-fire sample, but reasonably assumed, the sample quality should be within the 10% and thu,s no matter what, the estimation result shouldn't be below 1.8k and above 3.0k.

Ah, now there I think you're on shaky ground if you're going by Xfire numbers.  I had this out with Openedge a while back, and he eventually stopped trying to derive subscriptions from Xfire stats.  But like I said on the show, I'm not about to defend the 10K number, and subscription numbers are not really something I'd like to dwell on anyway.  The point of Vanguard Forever is to celebrate (and yes, evangelize) Vanguard for what it is, not for what it isn't.

And thanks for the kudos - I'm glad you enjoyed the show.

Listening to it now, this is actually the first podcast I've ever listened to so grats on that Ard :P

Incidentally the xfire numbers would probably be a bit more reliable if the xfire client updates stopped breaking Vanguard game recognition >_>

Listened to the podcast this weekend.  Really enjoyed it.  Only thing was that all three of you seemed to be at different audio lvls so if I raised the volume to hear Beau clearly and then you spoke, it would be blaring.

This is something that I'll be looking at very closely as part of the editing process moving forward.  The way Ep1 turned out, too, sounded like me coming from one speaker and Beau and Quert coming from the other, which is really awkward.
