Vanguards fate has nothing to do with SWG. LA didn't want to renew the license so it got cancelled. It think this has became quite clear now if you did your research. No such problem with Vanguard but its fate will remain the same, ignored by SOE till it shuts down.

Kinda a shame soe never really worked on Vanguard has a totaly diff. feel to it then say eq2 or eq I have tried it a few times game is pretty and is fun but cant see paying with no patches. As far as swg getting axed it was mostly LA decsion i would bet if soe would keep this game alive and planet side why would they kill swg?

Maybe they will change there mind i doubt it game seems to big for my taste at times seems very empty even if its not thats why most i know quit playing vanguard. They like the game hated how alone you felt. Game engine still feels laggy like it used to but does run ok on newer machines.

There was a quote someone posted here that they are bringing some old devs as well as some new devs back to this game and start updating it begining fiscal first quarter 2012.

Forgive my skepticism, but until I see it posted on the front page of the VG site I won't hold my breath.

I'm right there with you.  I want vanguard to have updates and succeed and I really want this information to be true so we will see what happens but I think we will be hearing more of this game in the comming months.

I dont expect Vanguard to be cancelled soon. SOE needed a license renewal (which they didnt get) from LucasArts for SWG. Vanguard doesnt have that problem. Maybe they even get some SWG devs now, so they finally get some work done with Vanguard.

SOE fanfair came and went and not one thing was said at fanfair about Vangaurd.   Kind of says it all.

Naylie says: "Vanguard has gotten a lot of attention internally this past week. I do believe that a road map for the game is being worked on. When that road map will be agreed upon and ready for posting, I do not know. When that information is ready to be shared it will be posted as soon as possible."

Silius to Massivly.com: "While Grant wasn't able to go into detail, he did say that there have been high-level meetings regarding future updates for Vanguard. They are definitely planning to do two updates within the fiscal year for Vanguard, although there is no exact timetable on when those updates will launch. He said that he will more than likely be overseeing whatever will be implemented, and they will also bring in other developers who had previously worked on the game"

They said they were moving the SWG devs to the new project,  EQ3 or EQ Next as it being called.

Vanguard borrows its dev power from eq2 and eq1 devs.

Here you go:

http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/07/10/soe-fan-faire-2011-an-update-on-vanguard/

oh heck, I'll just post it:

With no official panels or events planned for Vanguard fans at this year's Fan Faire, you might wonder whether Sony Online Entertainment has any plans for the future of the game. But take heart, because Vanguard is definitely alive and on the minds of the SOE development team. Salim "Silius" Grant from SOE sat down to talk to Massively about future plans for Vanguard. Read on for an update on the world of Telon.

While Grant wasn't able to go into detail, he did say that there have been high-level meetings regarding future updates for Vanguard. They are definitely planning to do two updates within the fiscal year for Vanguard, although there is no exact timetable on when those updates will launch. He said that he will more than likely be overseeing whatever will be implemented, and they will also bring in other developers who had previously worked on the game.

As to what will be in the updates, he said details are still being worked on, but it will probably include adventure content such as quests and dungeons, and they'll look to make use of some of the emptier real estate currently in game.

Next, we asked whether Vanguard might go free-to-play. Grant responded that it would be a major undertaking to add it into the game, since it would require a revenue stream, most likely in the form of a Station Cash Marketplace. So while they've talked about it, it's not on the table at this time.

When asked about whether the focus would be on revamping current content or adding new content, he said that what they're looking at is what will be the best bang for the buck for Vanguard fans, and what will meet the needs of the players. He also added that they want to put in content that will last for a while, and not be burned through quickly by the playerbase.

Thetas funny because its not on the official fanfair website, not part of any of the stick cam feeds I watched.   Hm-mm interesting. Sounds like an interview outside of the events.

I'm willing to assume that between EQ, EQ2 and Planetside 2, there just wasn't space at FanFaire to talk much about Vanguard.  Plus, I think this is genuinely new information, which may or may not have been hashed out to the point of being ready to say anything at the show - you'll notice, after all, that the news didn't break until afterward, and while you could read the article as something that was said at FanFaire, it doesn't actually say that, and I think it likely that it's something that happened just afterward.

I will be more than happy to admit I am wrong when something actually changes in this game. What SOE says and does are usually two different things. They may just string VG players along until they have a few more games for the station pass. You can not say that isn't possible.

When smedly himself says it going to happen I will believe it or an official post from the csm.  Not some interview with a dev who is in itemization for eq2, and is not a company spokesperson. Something very fishy about this interview outside normal channels.
