Vanguard is just one of those games now that you play it just to play it. Its not something that I would recommend "investing" in (And when I mean investing I mean looking to run the tables). This is not a bad thing, its just the truth of the current state of the game that it is now more a social game. I say this because for alot of the game you can find better elsewhere, however the pieces that VG focused on, it does it pretty well.

Raid Content -> Its there but if thats what you're here for, better off else where.
PVP Content -> Same as above.
Large Population -> Definately elsewhere.

However if you're looking for nice sight seeing, some crafting, and a few dungeon runs, then this may be your game. You have to follow the trend of posts that people make on the game, people talk more about the small community and nice players.

To me if I had to sum it up, Vanguard is a game that will appeal to players who focus on the little things (that may matter alot to some people) and isn't in the running for the major marketing aspects of MMOs in general. Myself, I play Rift now and it fits me better as I enjoy the raiding and achievements more than I did in VG with crafting/diplo (just wasn't my thing).

Hope this helps put it into a lil more honest perspective.

Yes, that was my mis-type. And yes I've played VG, probably more than you have. :) Least it was true...until sartok was killed heh.

How is that a mis-type?  Mis-types are mis-spellings, bad pronunciation, ect.  You didn't mis-type.  You just were wrong. Period.

You meant that Vanguard has PVP which they do not.  No mis-type.  No other way to interpret.  I seriously doubt you've ever played the game.  Or maybe you did back in the day when there was PVP?  That was quite some time ago . . . .

It was a mistake and corrected. {mod edit}. If I wanted to misinform and misguide then I would have. Why don't you comment on the other points?

Sounds like many mmos it could do with the hyrbid free to play model  . I guess given that a lot of players proberbly access this through SOEs station accounts thats pretty unlikly to happen .

Is vanguard worth coming back to?  That all depends on if you have already experienced it.

To a new player I would suggest it is worth at least experiencing what Vanguard has to offer.  Just to see how the classes are built, the massive view distances and scenery, large open dungeons, diplomacy, ships, housing, etc.  The one thing that needs to be addressed is expectations.  If someone is expecting Vanguard to be their mmo for years to come they have set expectations far to high.

Yes I know some people want to claim Vanguard has years worth of content, but the game is dieing as more and more people reach the end of the games resource and leave.  Even if someone got 2 years of content out of the game it wouldn't be the same game they signed up for today, because there will be massive dropoff in population.  Most of the  people playing right now are well into or beyond the content limit of the game and it isn't exactly drawing in new players.

Vanguard can be fun, but people need to play it for what it is. Enjoy what it has to offer, expect a bumpy ride of people coming and going and expect that it could end any day.

As I said above though, there are some really cool parts of the game that are worth experiencing just to witness them.

VG has soome of the best crafting in any MMO I played. And the graphics aren't half bad!

I would say that is a good way of putting it. For someone who hasn't play it and has a decent rig, I say fire it up if you're looking for some good eye-candy (playing it as high-end as possible is the way to go). But the player has to have the mind set of "play it how it is". What you see coming to the game, is probably what you will see when you leave the game. Unfortunately not many people are willing to swallow that kind of fate. This is where the downward spiral begins.

For me its frustrating seeing my former community folk having to scrap to try and get attention when the people who are responsible aren't.

Since I left back in late'09 (I poked my head in around mid '10 to test against my new rig), I continue to see new guilds form to try and make this grand VG resurgence, only to fall to the wayside. Its not that the people give up, its just the results they were looking for were extremely hard to reach (I remember a group of guys saying they want to bring in 800 players...really 800). The efforts are commendable, but its trying to do what SOE should've been doing for years.

As time goes on and new titles come out, they won't kill VG. They will only chip away. (Take some players, some comeback, but nonetheless there is a small loss that is big to VG) So for now, my advice to new players or prospective players, enjoy what you see. Definately take your time.
