I am having the 45 days to further retry this game again.I would appreciate any reasons to Play or Not to Play Vanguard. Please state reasons for both options.

Someone should play Vanguard if...

Noone should play Vanguard because...

Someone should play Vanguard if... they enjoyed their 45 free days enough to pay for it.

Noone should play Vanguard because... they did not enjoy their 45 free days enough to pay for it.

I'd say just get in the game. Join a guild, hearing good things about Twighlyte Song for new players, and start playing.

If you enjoy it, go for it. If you don't, you were playing for free anyway.

Try it for a month and then stop playing.

Vanguard need to be given to me. I need to work on it for 5 years. I got so many ideas to make it awesome and one of the best games ever.

You may want to give Vanguard a look because it has one of the most impressive and fun to explore gameworlds of any MMORPG released in recent memory.  There are two and a half massive continents to explore with each race having its own starting area provided you choose the classic starting zones over the Isle of Dawn. There are a plethora of classes that all play somewhat differently from what you're used to seeing in WoW.  If you can find a group, there are plenty of dungeons for every level range to  engage in a classic dungeon grind for experience as group play is where the game really shines.

You may want to pass on Vanguard because of its low population.  Last night I logged in at about 3:00 (bad time to check, I know), and on the US server, I only counted aboutg 119 people logged into Vanguard's massive gameworld via a /who all of various chunks of levels.  Secondly, Vanguard is insanely top heavy with veterans who have been playing the game for years.  The community is nice and willing to help new players, but as a new player, your enjoyment will depend on how much you're bothered by being outnumbered by veterans.  Secondly, there's just so much content that you'll pass by thinking, "Wow, I'd like to check that out!" only you really can't because it's group content, and you're stuck somewhere on the edge of the world as the only individual in the entire zone.  In fact, you'll encounter that a lot.  So many quests in Vanguard either start out as group or small group chains or are solo quests which end that way, leading to a heaping portion of frustration for new players trying to combat the game's low population.  If you're a player that doesn't like to work to form his or her own groups, you may want to look at a game like Everquest II over Vanguard, as you're just probably not gonna find too many PUGs via region chat.  Lastly, you need to understand that there really hasn't been an update to this game in about two years, and I would doubt if anyone's actually working on Vanguard at all.  There's a plethora of content to experience in Vanguard, but at least for me, I was bothered by the fact that I never could get the fact that Vanguard had no real future out of my mind.

Someone should play Vanguard if..

It's a good solid game , with some quirks. Scenery , good fun classes to try , interesting mechanics , it's deep and difficult to master.

No-one should play Vanguard because...

transiting zones is still and issue , and mainly Sony is ignoring it. Which is a shame.

I liked the game , but once you've run through the content and done the raids. It's pretty well over . Honestly there are only so many alts you can run through, that's not to say they play the same or hit the same content , but you get the drift. That said there is no way you will complete everything in 45 days. Each class is fun and diplo is easy once you learn it and functional to a degree. Crafting is necessary and challenging , until you learn the subtlies. Overall a good game until Sony got a hold of it to let it rot. You will need to join a raiding guild . This is not a single player game, the more help you can get the greater the enjoyment.

I've been over this territory more than once, so I will merely point you to an article I wrote a couple of years ago.  In it you'll find a host of reasons to play Vanguard.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that article. It's an experience more than it is a game.

Sure, there's lots of gameplay and content, but you can't really enjoy it unless you just run around for a few minutes, let the world sink in, and start to FEEL that you are in Telon.

There's something magic about that gameworld. Even if I keep unsubbing / resubbing to VG in favor of other games, nothing ever has (and I doubt, ever will) give me that same feeling of actually being in the gameworld.

Well so far the game is great, i really like the feeling of it. But i ran onto two major drawbacks.

1) Connectivity vs population. As an EU player i want to play on the EU server, but it's totally empty.

On the other hand the US server has quite a few players logged at a time but it gives me a ping of 350ms

2) The lack of competitive PvP. I was told there is only duels and an Arena. Is it so? And any  PVP stats/ranks to climb?

1) You'll just have to deal with it, honestly.  You're right to not bother with the EU server, from what I hear - virtually its entire population migrated to Telon. A ping of 350ms is lousy but it should be perfectly playable (see below.)

2) There used to be a PvP server, but there is not, nor has there ever been any real PvP support in Vanguard.  Some guilds may arrange PvP events from time to time, but that's about it.  Vanguard is a PvE game, there's no dedicated PvP advancement or gear.

I want to play the hell out of this game, I was a fan at "release" and still now... Only thing keeping me out, for some reason the game will not download for me...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and call a tad bit of BS on there only being 119 people online. I was suprised when creating an alt last night around 9 pm on Telon. The server status had changed from low to high. That is something I haven't seen for ages on VG. That being said, with the lack of engaging MMO's at the moment I'm sure quite a few folks are saying "Its free, what do I have to lose." After the free time counts down to zero, and folks have to start hitting the Subscribe button, more than likely the pop will dwindle once again. But not everyone will stop, so there should be just enough of a fresh crew to roam the land with.

Use the social function, and take time to socialize with people you come across, and you will enjoy the journey.

On a different note I discovered if you go into you're VG ini file you can turn on shader 3.0. Not only did this make a stunning world even more seductive for the eye's, it actually helped my performance instead of hindering it.

I just used the Station launcher and it downloaded and installed with no issues.  Or you can try the standalone download link HERE.

Oops - looks like I'm an internet dog who somehow learned how to type. What has the world come to?

Some people state the low population as being a reason not to play VG and some people state the lack of updates as another reason not to play VG. I can follow their point of view. On the other hand, some people point out that it's easy to make friends in VG and that you don't need thousands of players online to have a good gaming experience. Some people also point out that there's still tons of content, so even though there are no updates, there's still plenty to do. I can follow their point as well. Low population and lack of updates doesn't have to be a game stopper (high ping to the US server might be for some people in the EU though) unless you feel they are.

What is a game stopper to me on the other hand, is the fact that SOE might very well decide to shut the whole thing down tomorrow. If I go invest myself in say... WoW... LotRO... EVE... I have no reason to believe that they won't be around tomorrow or even a year from now. I just can't say the same about VG and that just kills any desire to really get into the game. It's a huge shame, since the game has such potential and SOE is just letting it rot away in some forgotten corner.

I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

SoE and untrustworthy to hold personel details is enough for me is enough.

Anyways, not sure if they gave any free play time at all as i cannot find the right page to log in and check (without having to hunt out teh game cd thats at the bottom of some box somewhere in the garage), account. Never had an e-mail from them in yrs but i just wouldnt be able to trust them with any details again, if i had to fill in that section it would probably start with Elmer Thudd, 41 rabbit huntings 26 confirmed kills etc etc etc

To play: Heard its a good game, quite fun, one of the last true mmorpgs now a days. That isin't just a lame linear themepark like WoW or Rift.

Not to play: Game has been abandoned by any dev for 1.5-2 years. Which means its a sinking ship, or is already dead and SoE is just keeping it open since its still profitable. Which is why I personally haven't tired it yet.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

or

B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

I just restarted in VG using the 45 free days. Here my reasons why I like VG but why I still will not play after the free days expire.

I like:

+ huge world without zoning

+ great environment graphics

+ deep complex crafting

+ diplo

+ interesting classes

+ so many choices

I dislike

- character models

- combat

- lack of population

The game breaker for me is combat. It just does not feel right. It looks like the characters are not really part of this world. There seems always to be some time delay between my actions and what happens in world. Same about mob actions. Hard to define the issue very clear but in the end combat just is not fun.

This was already the case at launch and up till today nothing changed there and probably never will due to lack of development resources. VG could have been a great game with a little more development.....

These type of threads always make me roll my eyes heavenward, seriously why can't you make your own decision especially with 45 days free play.

You have 45 days for christ sake, how simple is that. Download the game FOR FREE and then log in and see if you like it,you don't have to lay out a penny.

Exactly.  His next post will be "i have a toilet in the house, should i crap in the house or in the yard?" followed by "should i use leaves or toilet paper to wipe".  How do people like this even function without being able to make their own decisions?

Seriously, it's free for 45 days.  DUH?!?!?!?!

You really need any more reason than that?

Since your intellect equals that of a 10 year old, let me explain something as plain as i can be. My OP subject was not "literaly" whether i should play or not . I am playing the 45 day trial (duh). I just wanted to collect opinions from players that have played more than 45 days and believe it or not sometimes YOU DON'T get the full idea of what a game offers with 45 days, especially the ones with vast maps and lots of content(aka older titles). This post was made so that many aspects of playing Vanguard should be heard and make many players decide whether this game is actually worth the 45 days of commitment or even the amount of a subscription. My decision will certainly be helped by the mature response of many(who have already shared their opinions). Now why don't you go back to your "self confident cave kingdom" you live in and try to mock someone your own age.
