not that this is incentive for a game company as i'm just one player, but...

...show me one update in the works (meaning it's being tested currently) and blam you'll have my fifteen a month.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Currently Playing EQ2, TERA
Liked but retired: EQ1,SWTOR, FFXI, WoW, POTBS, Aion, L2, Eve, Rift, atlantica, Darkfall, though i felt it needed tweaks
Looking forward to: World of Darkness, TERA, Gw2, Titan

Recommendation of a game you probably haven't tried: POTBS, Atlantica, L2

There's that vicious circle again. I can understand the sentiment, but as long as numbers continue SOE has little incentive to support the game.
However, I have learned a few things over the last couple of days.
First, Vanguard does have two developers on the books.  SOE may be sharing them with other projects for all I know.  So the no development team thing is what's visible, but at least it's not official.
Two: Since the last posted update in Jan 2010, there have been a number of small bug fix updates, but  they're not logging them.
Three: There is still GM support in-game, customer support through SOE, and reps who still post on the forums.
Four: The links to the Isle of Dawn 14-day trial are broken.  I posted in the tech support forum on this, but SOE probably has other concerns at this time.  I have found a link to the trial installer that works, and I'm working on the problem.

I'd be more then happy to give  Vanguard a chance, just not Sony.

I cant help but feel sick when people insist on "giving a chance" to a game that has a monthly sub and zero support.

Vanguard may be worth a chance, but sadly SOE is not. Because at this point, we're not supporting Vanguard - we're justifying SOE's stupid Sony Pass.

Well, what world do you live in?

Are you aware that there is a great deal out there that doesn't fall under "popular media" and you have to take it where you can get it?

I have spent quite a bit of money going to concerts that were going to be slightly sub-par because the players might be new to the material, might be under rehearsed but where I would have a chance to hear a piece that is rarely played.

As far as Vanguard, there is a LOT of content in this game. You dont' need to have updates if one has never played it before. It's only after one has gone through all that there is to do that one might start reconsidering.

And, in the end, I'm always one to pay for my entertainment. I believe in it. I don't believe in this "for free" mode of thinking that people have.

So if one has never played Vanguard and is willing to take it for what it is, I HIGHLY recommend it. If one can't do this then move elsewhere because you will only be feeding the flames of your misery.

I played Vanguard at launch. But many other rats like me bailed out and dropped the game like a bad baby the INSTANT it was accquired by SOE. So many poeple left for that fact alone, and thier crappy "Trust us, we learned our lesson!' campaign was full of crap, because clearly they haven't and never will. SOE must die, and sadly that means Vanguard must die as well. Stop supporting it.

I bet that 90% of you "i wont play another game by SOE" crew will play EQNext when it lands.

I have. I loved it. I've given it a million chances. But SoE has not, and without SoE doing anything, the game will continue to sink. Besides, I'm not a fan of all the changes they forced on the game to try to make it appeal to the casual crowd, before giving up entirely. Bind on pickup? Instant teleporting? Glowing quest icons? Dumbing down crafting? No.

SoE has no reason to make this game succeed. As it stands now, with little to no development since about 6 months after launch, its still far and away, the best PvE MMO on the market, and MUCH better than EQ2. SoE can't have that. It's a conflict of interests. Pumping money into VG would just take subs from EQ2 and equal a net loss. So instead, SoE is going to slowly strangle VG and milk subs while it can.

I've given it a chance also and thought it was cool but i do not support the idea of insisting people go pay to play it, its just silly.

The graphics are outdated and there are 20+ other games just like it with better graphics. Im not saying it isnt pretty, definitely outdated tho.

Why would someone play Vanguard over EQII? Its crafting system? Im pretty sure a lot of players like myself dont give one crap about that if the rest of the game is better.

Would elements from Vanguard be cool in other games? sure. Pay to play an unsupported and old ass game? no thank you.

Old game? It's what, 3 years old? Graphics outdated? It looks better than 95% of the MMOs on the market. And no game plays just like it. It has far superior dungeons and classes and quests to EQ2, plus, no instances is always a good thing. It's gameworld is simply unmatched. And its crafting and diplomacy systems are a breath of fresh air in a stagnant genre.

Vanguard is old school.  It took some time but it's now one of the best mmo's ever made.  It does not need updates, it's a full game complete with everything already in there.  The world is huge and full of quest.  Mob placement is just right, you don't have to fight your way across the map, you just simply get on your mount and ride to your quest and you will find your camps caves and dungeons.

EQ2 is set up for when you reach level 21 in a 20-30 zone you can't even move until you do 10 silly simple quest next to the quest givers until your level 26, and even then you have 5 mobs chasing you every 10 seconds.  This makes exploring imposable. And makes for a crappy game. Some call this hardcore, I call it garbage.

There is nothing wrong with Vanguard other than low population. YES, this is SOE's fault.  If you ask me SOE sucks !...... HOWEVER this can be overcome easily by using the social panel to make friends. I now just created a level 9 Ranger.  I'll be leaving the starter zone probably by tonight.  I can safely guarantee I'll have at least 5 " Yes " 5 NEW friends by tomorrow night that I can play Vanguard with.

Time to get over the hate.

People bitching about no updates are full of crap.  This game has AT LEAST TWO YEARS OF PLAYABILITY  before you run out of content. SOE can't justify an expansion, It's been built with the content for at least three expansions already........I'm sure this is a blow to SOE because they are famous for making money by pumping out expansions every eight months and calling there games new !

It really does have tons to do...I look at the quest list from the Vergals Exhange area alone and get a headache. I ported all around and the world is the biggest I've seen. Just so many mmos I never committed to one yet. RIFT is fun but I really like all the systems built in to this game. Plus the combo of class and  use-them-to-raise-them skills. I will have to wait til after the free days because I need to experience the population under normal  conditions. Seeing as I am enjoying levelling a Spy in SWG too...I might stationpass just for SWG/VANGUARD. I have MMO HDD though so I jump around  alot.

Fine, youve convinced me to give it yet another chance. =p

I couldnt help but laugh at the graphics being better than 95% of the current mmo's tho.

Yeah because the game was such a  run away success with all the old features intact right? of course they had to make changes to attract more players because handful of people can not push start this game. They need a lot of subs to fund further development of this MMO. And even with all the new changes they are unable to attract new players because MMO's seldom get a second chance. They screwed it up big time at launch. If they had began to attract casual players from day one they would have made some progress by now. On top of it buggy and broken game at release didn't help either.

I used to like VG but I cannot play a game that isn't supported with regular development by it's owners.

If SOE was still developing the game maybe I'd give it another go...

I am more than some of my parts

5/28/11 12:56:00 PM#76

I've heard both good and bad about this game. As it stands I wouldn't try this game unless it was free to play. With the recent epic fail by Sony, I am definately not going to give them access to my credit card info, and tracking down alternatives to play just doesn't seem worth the effort.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

when you have this type of vicious circle, no customers = no updates = no customers it is not up to the costumer to make the first move, thats what marketing companies are for. SOE can do good business and market and promote the hell out of vanguard and then people will come. it does not work the other way around...

um, no.

I like Vanguard. I don't care that sony has it. when I play it, which is casually, I enjoy it.

Why should I stop doing something that I enjoy becaues someone has it in for Sony? Heck, I can point to most developers, companies, etc that do things that I don't like. And some of them do thing that I really dont' like. Things that I think actually matter. Not this silly "sony does x and y".

As far as I know, sony is not supplying terrorists with guns, depleting the water supply of indegenous populations or supporting hardcore right wing agendas that I feel are a threat to the world. Or hardcore left wing agendas for that matter.

If they start doing that then I'll stop paying for their games.

Otherwise they offer a product, a product I like and one that I would love to see other companies learn from, and I'll play it until they shut the servers off.

Do I think they should do more? yes. But they are not. They essentialy saved the game from oblvion, spruced it up and said "this is it, this is what we are willing to do" and you can pay for it while we offer it.

It's just that simple. As I haven't exhausted the content in the game I have no problem subscribing to the game. That's their price for entry and I think it's worth it.

Or... I can pay for a game that is updated all the time, has a lot of company support, fanfaires, etc but one that I just don't want to play.

I think I'll just keep my Vanguard sub.
