Prolly like you i played most of the mmos on the market, including betas, alphas etc.

But Vanguard manages to top them all in one way or the other. I definitely got caught by it. Funny thing is that in this period AOC, WAR and LOTRO sent me mails to reativate my account giving me some free days.(you know what i mean). And from those mmos i chose Vanguard.

I hate it that Sony sits on their a** and don't realize what they got here. I mean they could tidy it up a bit and relaunch it world wide because the game is def no the game that was launched back in 07.

If you didn't try it i recommend u go here http://vanguard.station.sony.com/ and try the trial!

The game is free u only pay the subscription wich is 15$

They should improve character and mob annimations to be fluent and on par with Aion.

They should make MOB AI as it was supposed to be, the next level.

They should add meaningfull PvP (On a DAoC/Aion based idea)

They should improve the ecoonomy...

Its a small list to make this game the best and broadest game on the market.   But espescially the bumpy annimations turn me off........

But if they do this and relounge the game under another name, it will be an instant hit....

Currently immersed in the world of Star Wars.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package)
Worst MMO experience : FF XIV

I think the problem is two fold. actually there are more than 2 folds ; )

One, Vanguard is mostly (at this time) a pve game. That means it competes with EQ II. Also, in order for players to be interested, many of them want to see lively populations and heavy development.

And it's a bit of a catch 22.

Players don't want to stay around and support a game that doesn't have a robust population and a lot of content coming down the pike. In order to get a robust population you need to get people flocking to the game and a lot of content coming down the pike.

On top of that, the game is not incredibly polished. Sure, it's come a long way but it has its ideosyncracies.

That's why I've decided, that no matter what, I will keep a vangaurd account for as long as the game is live. It just offers so much that most games just don't have as far as open world and exploration. This is a game that needs to be supported. As it stands now, they have a smaller than desireable team.

Essentially SOE is trying to get a lot for a little by keeping this game.

Also, I don't think this game would ever have been a powerhouse, even if it has a flawless launch. Given what I see other players of other games comment on, they would have issues with travel in Vanguard, even with the riftt travel. They wouldn't like the xp death penatly. They might not like that some of the content is challenging. Heck read Elikal's post on what he didn't like. I think he captures what the average gamer is thinking. And the average gamer isn't going to like Vanguard.

I can only hope that those who like the game stick with it and support it. maybe in time it will grow a strong dedicated and larger community much like Eve and SOE will wake up.

Eve is the only game CCP runs, VG is just one of many and with SOE working on DCUO and The Agency i just don't see them ever supporting the game like CCP does with Eve.

Brad's mismanagement f*#ked VG up. If Sigil hadn't gone under VG just might have been a small success.

Are you joking?? before the game relased the Vanguard official forums were full of so called hardcore old skoll vets wanting the game and telling the game to be hardcore and telling wow carebears to fuuck off, then when the game released these same so called hardcore vets couldnt handle the game.  This game when released was not about challenge it was about the god awful state the game was released in, this game offers no more challlenge than current mmo's the only original idea in the game is the diplomacy cardgame, hell that was quite a neat idea still, but other than that it is not challenging.  If you mean challening putting up the vast areas of nothing then yes thats challenging, if by challenging you mean putting up with piss poor AI and animations then yes thats challenging.  The only challenging thing is the Diplomacy card game, hell that I will give you is a mosnter of a game.  Other than that the game was and is piss poor.  Maybe it may turn around but I very much doubt it, with a skeleton crew of devs, and a population of  what 10-20K?  Soe wont be supporting the game for much longer they are in dire financial diffculties.

I'm not sure what part you thought was a joke. Currently the game is easier now then when it was released. Or at least it seems to be. However there are people who would prefer a game that was more like original vanguard in its conception and there are people who play now who can because they made things a bit easier.

I don't look at the world as being vast areas of nothing. I look at it as a world. Some places I can travel and some I have things to do. ONe of the biggest mistakes, in my opinion, that LOTRO did was to make the entire world just covered in mobs. Can't stand that. There are sections where I would love to just travel to my destinations but the field is covered in mobs. I prefer the way the world of Vanguard is set up. If this is not to your taste then no worries, you are entitled to your opinion.

An example of challenging would be that some of the content requires groups and it's a bit difficult for the solo player to do. And if one dies, one has to run back to get their tombstone in order to get their items and xp back. Otherwise they can get their items by summonign the tomstone but the items have some wear and tear and you don't get the xp back. This is far different than in a game like LOTRO or WoW.

However, no I don't think the AI is incredibly intteligent or anything like that.

Vanguard is a game I keep wanting to like.

But the bugs, animation, "stiff" feeling, and the fact that I would be giving SOE money kinda give me a sour taste in my mouth.

Besides...SOE doesn't want to support VG...it's EQ2's competition.

In my opinion, VG is the best PvE game on the market. It's 3 complete games in one (adventuring, crafting and diplomacy). For one person to get a character to level 50 in each, it would take a huge time investment that could keep a gamer happy for a very long time.

in my opinion, the best thing that could ever happen to VG would be for SOE to cut support for the game. If this were to happen, I truly believe we'd see something like what happened to Horizons - a third party come in and buy the IP and re-launch as something new (Vanguard: Chronicles of the Gifted maybe?).

Unfortunately, as stated above, VG is too much competition for EQII so SOE will sit on it and babysit it to ensure it has enough to keep those craving old EQ-like adventures happy while ensuring it doesn't change enough to draw players from EQII.

I wish Sony would let it die so some other company could come and rebrand it. Compared to today's MMO games the land is still varied and beautiful, the creatures look good, and the character animations are fantastic. I would like to see the character models themselves get a real revamp but I can live with the beefed up look they have now. We just need a new company to come and re-release the game... a company that doesn't have a 10-year old IP to protect like EQ.

If SOE would let it die i don;t think there would be someone who'd buy it dunno why.

I would buy it if the gave it cheap :P

ya know, I've actually decided to give this game another shot....so many people lately keep saying good things about it...maybe I just have never had the "right" experience yet (picked the wrong class, race, whatever).

Gonna give it another shot....maybe it can keep me busy until Fallen Earth comes out.

The game is amazing. I am in love with it. It reminds of EQ1 in its small ways, but the lack of players made me recently quit. I can not play an mmo when i am the only one online looking for a group most nights. Its a shame, i'm sure end game is much better, but i'm sick of playing games that require top level before the fun... i know vanguard isn't designed that way but due to the lack of players, its a very lonely game until the end.

I also agree with the others, the animations suck. It doesn't even feel like the character is in the world, just skipping across the land.

If SoE came out and said we are pumping $$ into the game and are planning to re-launch it... i'd sod my interest in Aion and look forward to Vanguard again, but it won't happen, atleast i can't see them doing it, its a shame, it is indeed a Gold Mine.

SOE and Vanguard, that is the old story of IBM and OS/2.

IBM should have simply made OS/2 as cheap as Windows. That way they would have killed Windows off easily.

But what did they do instead ? They included an emulator for Windows in it. Making it easy for OS/2 users to use Windows programs and making it unnecessary for developers to create a special OS/2 version of their programs.

Seriously, how stupid can one be ?

Same for SOE and Vanguard. They dont check out the game itself, they check out the player counts. Which are down. They are simply not gamers, they are merchants.

What makes me stay out of VG is basically character animations, But I agree with you, the game is really good.

He he he I think it's just a matter of taste. I know I'm a little picky about graphics in games. By the way, I played it 2 times. At release I leveled up to 20 a cleric and it was fun. Some time later I leveled a Bard up to 22. Well, I got a good fun while it lasted, both times I got bored about the animations, but It was a fun experiencie all the way. If the game doesnt require a to buy the client anymore it's a good move in SOE's side.

Well, if you play games only for graphical glory, only the newest games will ever be enough.

Yeah I wouldnt complain if Vanguard has graphics like, say, Oblivion, but it hasnt. As compensation, it has an extremely large gameworld, a complex class system, and is so much more a better game from pure gaming experience than Oblivion that its not even funny to think about it.

Cant compare it to Aion, though, not played that game and not planning to ever play it.

When you have to resort to saying something "isn't that bad" it really is a telling sign about what is being discussed.

I agree with you that the animation were not that bad, but they were by no means good.  It does give the game a really stiff feeling which is a large turn off for some people.

I've probably considered trying this game out dozens of times, but something always stops me... probably (okay, definitely) the fact that it's (now) an SOE game.  I canceled my EQ2 sub (that I was thoroughly enjoying, btw) when they decided to introduce microtransactions in addition to a monthly fee, and it would feel somehow wrong to give them money for another title.

Does VG have/use Station Cash, by the way?  If it doesn't, I might be able to rationalize playing it. heh... there's a couple copies of the CE box for sale at EB up the road for like $60 or something.

I beta tested it, and played at launch. I couldn't take it. stoped playing till last year, tryed it again, and despite of what people say, I still think its crap. it reminds me of a bug ridden clone of EQ2. I hate to be mean, but if they were to go FTP like D&DO, I still wouldn't play it. This game is a dead horse. I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for my comments, but thats just how I feel.

SOE dropping VG and some other company that actually wants to do something with it is certainly the best thing that could happen to it, and the players, and MMOers in general that would like some more options.

It reminds me of some rich sports team that buys some small teams best player only to park them on the bench just so they don't have to compete with that player anymore. Total waste, very cynical.

I am not going to flame you because that is your Point of VIEW. I for one love this game and will continue to play it because with all the bad animations that you say it has, with all the bugs and crap you say it has i like this game 10x more than any aoc, daoc, war, wow, rom, fallen earth etc!

And the game doesn't use station cash

Yeah SOE is sitting on a gold mine...with Free Realms and the upcoming DCUO.

Vanguard sucks the sweat off dogs balls. The concept is dead The EQ Raid model is dead, Archaic Guild structures are dead, folks don't have time for complex social networks in their real lives (those of us who actually have real lives) much less in our virtual ones. Four hours to Raid? WTF?? If I don't have Four hours to do something meaningful I certainly don't have it to spend with a group of people I can hardly stand but need to get my phat lewtz.

MMO's have evolved, smaller groups (Five or less..think old school D&D group) shorter Epic encounter times (an hour to an hour and a half tops) easy in easy out.. Entertain me I have a job already mother fucker. The developers who don’t get this are doomed for failure, the ones that see the writing on the wall may be able to catch enough scraps from Blizzard to survive.

Again that is you POV and it is your opinion that the model, concept, structure is dead. It's only in your vision because you haven't made a huge survey with thousands of people whom said that you are right.

I also have a full time job but i still play.
