Just wondering if some vanguard vets still patrol these forums. I'm looking for a game to play because of the community. I'm looking to make some friends. I'll check back on this, I'd love to meet some new friendly people.

I'm telling you, this is not a kids mmorpg. I played a couple years ago or so and quit because there was no population. Now, I'm back into it and can say this is an awesome game. The movement and mechanics aren't very smooth, but the details to the actual game are very good. I love the crafting system because it is a game in itself. Everyone has recommended starting on Isle of Dawn but I found that it was somewhat like cheating because they give you some decent gear to start out with. I didn't like this and started a Wood Elf in the starting are for that race. Druid is very fun!

thank you for your feedback :)   why is it showing the server is down? Is the f2p going live now? I can't find a date.

They have been down since about 9:00 am pst due to a game update. It was to be down for only a couple hours but according to feedback on the official website they are having some type of undisclosed trouble! Someone said a dwarf axed a cable to a server or somehting. :D

Well I'm far from an expert but the necromancer is suppose to be very durable for solo. I tried it, liked it, but didn't hang with it. I then went with the Dread Knight which played a bit like a ret pally from WoW but I dropped it also. I don't know why, I just didn't get into it. I have put only about 6 hours into my druid and I really like it. You get a good  root right off the back and once rooted you can cast a lightening spell that is very effective. The druid gets a bit of everything, dots, heals, and pets that are summoned for a short period of time.

I think if you play you have to slow your mindset down to a lower level because this game is not a WoW or Rift (which I'm really liking). It feels way more open to me and I'm excited to be playing it! After GW2 releases I hope I still have the time to keep up with it. :)

I'd say try a Disciple. Good melee/healer hybrid, and last I played they were the best soloers in the game.

Dread knights and Necromancers are also good choices if you'd prefer to be more tankish or a caster.

Crowded elevators smell different to midgets.

I would highly reccomend it.

If you enjoy the 14 day trial area (Isle of Dawn) you will be mesemerized by the actual game world. The ambience of Vanguard is something I have personally been looking for for quite a while now.

Keep in mind, this is sylized more from a traditional and older MMO template (i.e. EQ/DAoC)

It isnt the hack and slash style masacre killing frenzy the genre has made a standard. Its a little slower paced. However, that is not a criticism. If that is something you are unuse to there is something to be said about it.

Most of the classes are playable solo (I would stay away from War or Rog at first unless you are playing with a friend or significant other). Some will just have an easier time with it. Disciple is a beast when it comes to solo resilience. Shamans are good, necromancers are solo classes. There is alot about it online.

You will be doing a little old school research for the game like the older template of MMO was known for. Great place to start is class research =P.

Really, try it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the depth and feel of what you find.

I just started the free trial with a friend, he's playing a necromancer and I chose the psionicist and so far they work very nicely together. Can't wait for this game to go F2P. No harm in trying out multiple classes to find what feels right for you.

Play around and try different stuff; Vanguard's classes are a strengrth. Bard that can write the own songs, Necromancers that build their own pets out of leftover body parts, Blood Mages and Disciples that both heal and DPS. Every class, even the boring looking ones, has quite a bit of depth to it.

I like the racial starter areas better than the Isle of Dawn. IoD is nice and gives you some nice gear, but doesn't give you as good a feel for the world you'll be playing in after you leave it. You'll outlevel the gear by level 15 anyway, except for the Diplo trinket.

Using words to talk of words is like using a pencil to draw a picture of itself, on itself.

If you really want to have fun in this game try and get a friend to join you. I personally think the Bard is the funnest class to play, you pretty much make songs and each song has different pieces. Forgot the names, but I think there's crescendo, intro, outro, stuff like that, and each part gives you a different buff that you choose. I spent about 4 hours just making different songs for any situation with my Bard. If you go the solo route, Druid, Necro, Cleric, Psi (takes some practice) are all good classes to play and all very different from one another.

Yes I have a dream… And its not some MLK dream for equality. …I wanna own a decommissioned lighthouse …And I wanna live at the top… And nobody knows I live there. …And theres a button that I can press, and launch that lighthouse into space.

I played this game for a couple years. I had a twink in every tier for FFA PVP server so know a hell of a lot about this game or at least I did. Hopefully they have added things since then and I will see some new stufff? Anyways hit me up if you are just starting out because I am sure I will need some peeps to group with.

NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do.
