As I sit here pondering what game to play since I have been bored to tears of WoW for months, I am constantly thinking of EVE Online. It has all kinds of things I love in a game, from a sandbox feel to doing whatever you'd like, exploring etc. Basically it's the sci-fi version of a game I would love (if I could ever get over that learning curve I'd probably never stop playing) and Vanguard was SUPPOSED to be the fantasy version of a game I would love.

So I sit here wondering...what if? I did beta on Vanguard and then tried the first month and it was just too much for me, I had to cancel. It's because of that experience I have a hard time giving Vanguard a try again :(

Nothing more, just reminiscing...and thinking of games :)

I agree, I played during the first month (I didnt realize it was the first month at the time) and I had some fun for a while, then I just quit, it was just kinda boring. Since then I havent been able to bring myself to playing it again.  But yea, its pretty much what im looking for, just in a horrible package.

I'm sure by bad launch he means, "why did you not launch complete and well"

Correct, I wasn't around for the year and a half it was rough or whatever happened after. I've seen some pretty good posts from guys saying to come check it out, it's much better etc, then thre are always the naysayers who say, no way it's not like that it's still like X.

And that keeps my money in my wallet :-P

These days you just have to sub and not buy the box after downloading the trial so there is little excuse not to try it out at least, unless people find their time too precious.

I tried it for a month after it was released and quit just like most people who was there during launch. Falling beneath the world and hit something making it impossible to get your xp back from your tomb, to playing the psi class and being unhappy with the way CC was supported in the game. Lots of little things. 3 months ago i decided to give it another go and was really surprised with how much fun i had with the game. Coming from somebody who swore he would never play again.

The game is far from perfect today. There are still bugs that was there during beta but a lot of them has been fixed and the performance of the game has improved a lot. The population is low in the sense you are down to 2 US servers 1 EU server and 1 PvP server ..as far as population goes on both of the US servers i would say they are healthy and fine considering this game has no instances to combat over crowding. If the servers were full you would have the same problem you had in EQ in the beginning where you had to be put on lists.

Download the trial and give it a whirl if you are bored. The only thing you are paying with is your time. Best way to find out for yourself instead of listening to posters like myself

As the above poster says:

The trial is free. All it will cost you is some download time and trial play time.

Forget what you see written on here, good or bad - just try it for yourself. You may like it, you may hate, but it wont have cost you any money.

If you decide to subscribe, you don't even have to pay to 'buy' the game, you only pay the monthly subscription. Once you sub, you get the rest of the game patched, and are ready to go in Telon.

Playing ~ Vanguard (and a bit of Everquest II and Age of Conan)
