Game: EVE Online
I agree, taking a break as well. My character is at the point (SPs wise) that I am no longer negatively affected by canceling my sub since I'm where I wanted to be skills wise (all Minny & Amarr skills maxed).
With that said, I sit & wait for the eventual integration of FPS + MMO (Dust + EVE). However, if they make Dust exclusively for consoles it will fall on it's face. The whole point of DUST being an amazing product is it's ties to EVE. Non-Eve players won't like DUST as much as we will (lore connection to elements of the game). It'd be a blind & ignorant move should they ignore PC players.
looks really good. i am taking a break as well from even. I can jump back any time with enough ships and isk and skills but often the games feels like a second job. Looking forward to tehe fps part of the game.
if they implement any sort of character (a charater indipendent from you ship) play even remotely similar to what's on that vidoe this game will become off the hook amazing.
Eve is already awesome but this would just make it just fantastic.
Old news, but good video to remind people. They have only announced the PS3 console version, which is double stupid. Hybrid game's aren't doomed to fail for just being hybrid, but I think its obvious why this should have multiple ports. Trying to tap into that huge 22 million+ Xbox Live FPS gamer niche while keeping the EVE side of things alive for PC players is obviously way smarter then having only a PS3 version no one plays.
@rtbbvr: If you think PS3 players are going to enjoy the complexity that DUST will have the way Eve has to offer PC players with their UI being the way it is, good luck to CCP. I just don't see a combination of console planetary FPS working while being integrated with a over complicated PC space game. But hey, only time will tell and like I already said, DCUO is a prime example of how fail hybrid games are.
much as i like Eve, and the Video is awesome .. but porting dust514 to the PS3 would be a mistake, the hardware is just not up to it.. (black ops is a prime example) even limiting it to the xbox would be a mistake, the point about DCUO is a good one, i don't want Dust to fail, but if its console only.. i don't see how it can't not fail.. :(
I see that many of the comments so far touched the same nevralgic point that keeps me from going back to this game: being too overcomplicated. Way too much time to invest and a too steep learning curve will keep new players to stay in the game and old players from going back.
I too am in a break (long one) and I only go back when they give those 5 days for free just to get the pulse, but old same story. Too many useles details that prevent you from getting to the important ones and way too much time to spend in front of a game.
Only the graphics being great cannot make it for me. Sorry.
Why the fuck are we comparing EVE/Dust to a shitty DCUO? They are on opposite sides , nothing in common , 0 , zero , nada...wtf is wrong with you people? It's like comparing a Civic vs a Bugatti on a Dyno run. Also the game has been announced for the Xbox 360 , I don't know where / how you people get your sources but I kept reading and reading what you people keep typing and decided to jump in to set the record straight. Mentioning DCUO in this is like mentioning Justin Bieber on a famous Dope song Die mofo die. The point of it being overcomplicated , CCP has had the same mind set since 1999 and are still growing to this day , and that mind set is their way or the high way. Now if all other Devs had the same mind set we wouldn't have crappy easy mode MMO's on this site. But hey , some people like having everything from Day 1 and owning Noobs with no honor. If that's your style of gaming then thank God your not playing EVE.
You guys are missing the point. The end of the video clearly state EVE not DUST.
And on that part, Dev blogs stated in the past that they are integrating DUST to EVE meaning it's coming to PC Gamers. DUST might still be run for console on a different side meaning it won't impact the EVE server at all.
Still not fond of playing EvE in spite of it's quality.
However, I think it'd be awesome to play Dust as an extension of some EvE corporation. Definitely helps with that 'bigger than the battlefield' and persistence aspect to games that tends to be lacking in shooters.
Is no one else pissed off at users spamming us. Come on send a special message to lincal111 he says he's a female but that shouldn't stop you from knocking his teeth out.
Where's the Walking in Stations expansion? Five years going since announced and still waiting. Not coming back till my Amarran can open up his slave market/bar.
EVE player: "Look at those monkeys running around down there. I'm glad we hired them, but perhaps they're too expensive. Let's nuke 'em from orbit and cut costs."
That's what CCP wants. Console players don't have to understand EVE, or even know what it is, really. All they have to do is what they do best: shoot fight shoot fight shoot fight grenade grenade grenade shoot "OMG I PWNED U NOOB GO BACK TO UR MOMMA!"
Cool video overall, and a nice glimpse into the future of EVE.

I agree with this poster but in not the exact words...my view of the consle version of Dust is like...hiring PMCs They just get the job done for whoever pays them as long as the get the money who cares what's asked of them (granted that;s if they're THAT kind of PMC)
Please...that is so vaporware the fumes make my eyes water. Walking in stations five years ago and still vapor. By the time they roll that out the door we will be using powered armor and have real starships. Nice video yes but come on. You guys need to pull your chairs up to the real world table. This isn't going to happen and if it does it will be just like Eve...broke laggy and full of more broke mechanics. Keep dreaming people.
Considering that this is the first time they have put a defnitive release date on getting WiS/Incarna out the door I don't think it is going to be out this summer. And by definitive I mean its coming out X. not we're hoping to get it out in X, should be done by X, trying to release it in X.
If this was taken from the game then i would be first inline to buy a copy, but i know better than to believe this is game footage .. really this type of advertisment should have a 'bullshit' warning.
sibs that was all done with the game engines that are in use or in development, only thing that isn't present there currently is the backend stuff for the connections between EVE and dust since the exact interactions have not been set in stone.
These trailers don't show the gameplay, but the game IS like that, at least, you can do all those actions, only less movie like, less dramatic. From some people, the experience you can have with eve is even better than what trailers show, its really up to if you enjoy it or not.
To say less dramatic, less movie like is a huge understatement. I wanted to love EvE. On paper, it sounds great, but playing it simply was not fun for me. I did not have the time to dedicate to it, nor inclination.
I would love to participate in the EvE universe, and the depth of a FPS would be about right for me.

Dust should be on the PC, as majority of console games are fly-by-night, and it would be much better if players could interchange between Eve and Dust on the same platform.
Dust should be designed to attract the Clans that play FPes on the PC so that it generates a following.
Maybe make Dust like a morden day planetside Planetside and perhaps let Eve chars develop their "ground" skills on a different tree than their space skills etc.
Dust should either be deep enough to keep the game going for years along side Eve, or have regular releases like other FPSes otherwise it will fade.
In last years EVE team started to make amazing movies. I really like them, and always exited to watch new one.
But... to my disappointment, the game is much less spectacular to view, then a movie by CCP. In real game one usually see jut dots in space, no actual ships, since they far. So most of time players see just advanced interface, not actual game objects like ships. Those movies are not same, as typical fantasy ground MMORPG movie, where you actually can meet all content shown, seeing them from almost same point of view in game.
I've played EVE for a few years, like since 2006 and quit about a year ago. It was fun to play.
Normally I am a casual gamer only because I have yet to find an MMO that can hold my interest longer than say two weeks. EVE is the closest I have come to wanting to actually buy into. Only because it comes off as a simulation more than an actual game. Yeah it has your classic game aspects, but it does require your time and it's feel and learning curve can be considered difficult.
The simulation feel of it turns some people off. Because yes you have to dedicate time to it, but if all games were the same then you wouldn't have a category of gamer type either Hardcore or Casual. There aren't just gamers (quarter crunchers) like in the arcade days.
The style of a game has changed and we have games with serious dedication needed to achieve anything. If you don't enjoy something then yes it's a job. If you try to force yourself to do it without the benefit of enjoying the effort you put into it. If you try to do a job you hate then it becomes work. If you enjoy the job you do then it's like play time.

I left in 2007 because I was sick of wasting 99% of my time trying to mane money and traveling, in order to actually fight 1% of the time (and half the time lose everything I worked for).
I will not come back (not even for those free 5 day reactivations) until I can walk around in stations and do things (productive things) with my actual character (not a damned ship). That is assuming I haven't completely lost interest and moved on to much better things in my life. Like someone else said, they have been working on the whole "ambulation" thing for how many years now? And what's come of it so far aside from crappy videos?
I also agree with a lot of what people are saying about this being a waste on a console. No offense to the console gamers out there, but all FPS games are inferior on a console. It's simply a matter of hardware. A console just can't keep up with a good gaming PC, and nothing else (not even motion sensing technology for the PS3 or 360) comes close to the accuracy and control you can get with a keyboard and mouse.
Eve-Online, a world of promis(es) where the art of misdirection has been mastered. Visions often don't become reality...
I'm still a subscriber (since May 2003) but more inactive than active. Much has changed and improved over the years but some of the greatest promises have yet to be delivered.
I am still waiting for walking in stations from the last fanfest (and prior I think?)
/first
Looks really good! Giving a break from EvE, but I shall definetly come back, especially because of the quality of it and ccp.

Thu Mar 31 2011 7:42AM ReportFor those who may be concerned about the integration of DUST into EVE...
Console players: Shoot fight shoot fight shoot fight shoot fight shoot fight shoot fight grenade grenade grenade shoot.

Fri Apr 01 2011 8:24PM ReportI exactly agree with Naral
The game sounds great and surely is great once you dedicate your life to it..otherwise you're just screwed..
Sat Apr 02 2011 6:32AM ReportIt's funny that the two main complaints I tend to see about EVE are mutually exclusive.
1. It's way too demanding for a person with a life to be successful in.
2. Time-based training means you don't have to play at all! What casual crap!
I'm not saying those aren't both valid criticisms, but they are amusingly at odds in terms of how complex and intellectually challenging it can be.
My thouughts are:
Dust should be on the PC, as majority of console games are fly-by-night, and it would be much better if players could interchange between Eve and Dust on the same platform.

If you enjoy the job you do then it's like play time.

simple minds are easily amused
It's business and to reach more clients you have to think of the markets and where there is a demand.......console gamers represent large amounts of Iskies and other bling....CCP is just tapping another source....it would be boring if we were all the same.
Sun Apr 10 2011 3:41AM ReportI left in 2007 because I was sick of wasting 99% of my time trying to mane money and traveling, in order to actually fight 1% of the time (and half the time lose everything I worked for).
Mon Apr 11 2011 6:17PM ReportEve-Online, a world of promis(es) where the art of misdirection has been mastered. Visions often don't become reality...
I'm still a subscriber (since May 2003) but more inactive than active. Much has changed and improved over the years but some of the greatest promises have yet to be delivered.
I am still waiting for walking in stations from the last fanfest (and prior I think?)
