Great game once you are into it, but about the GMs...

I'd played this game for over four years and loved it, till I had a run in with GM Nova. Once he declares you guilty there is no reprieve!

SP are time based so playing every day isn't a requirement
Cons

 GMs are untouchable
There is no customer support outside the GMs
The logs they love to quote seem to be subjective

This is a great game once you get into it, you need good people to play with tho. On the down side there is absolutely NO accountability for the GMs in any way that I've seen. There is no one that you can call if you run foul of a GM or feel things are unfair, everything has to be handled through thier petition system. I loved playing but let me relate the experiences leading to me quitting the game, this is from my perspective only I'm sure that GM Nova has his own take on it.

When I first started playing I had one account but quickly got to where I had 8 accounts, most of which I purchased with ISK on the forums (allowed under the game rules) I also purchased one comp for each account so ya I'm a bit of an MMO addict I guess. When I started transfering ISK from one toon to another toon GM Nova soon decended on me accusing me first of selling ISK at which point he siezed a huge sum of ISK from me and banned my accounts for a month. Via the petition system I was able to show him that the transfer was from one of my accounts to another so no 'sale' had occured, so he promptly accused me of buying ISK so the fine and ban stood. Again I was able to show where the ISK came from and that it was legal. Next he accused me of hacking the accounts so the fine and ban stood, the logs from thier own forums showed that I'd bought the accounts with ISK so again I was innocent. Finally he did get me for not having transferred the characters that I'd purchased to new accounts so the fine and ban stood. So for the grevious sin of having been unaware that I had to transfer the accounts he fined me roughly 36 billion ( I never had that much but he just added up the total of all transactions between my characters when he thought I was an ISK seller, regardless of the fact that it was largely the same ISK over and over again) and banned my accounts for a month. Clearly I was not willing to pay for a month of non-service from them so I went to remove my billing information on thier site and was unable to find the link when I logged in for over a half hour, so I called Visa assuming that I was somehow too dim to find the correct link. After explaining myself to Visa the gentleman on the phone reversed the charges from them for non service and called me about an hour later telling me he'd contacted them and basically laid down the law. When I logged in again to ensure that my information was gone it was remarkable but the link to my billing information was right there on my accounts, not sure if I'd just suffered from 8 bouts of temporary blindness or something, but whatever. After the month I returned and found that to activate the accounts they had back billed me so each account had to have the banned month paid for to reactivate the account. I'm ashamed to say that I did pay the $100+ fine for the banned month plus another $100+ for the current month that i wanted to play.  Upon my return I found that instead of fining a single char the whole 36 billion he made it so that every toon that I have had a huge negative bank balance. In the game a negative bank balance means you are effectively unable to play, fortunately I had a jump freighter that I could sell to get one toon out of debt and after massive effort and many months I managed to get all of my toons back in the black. For two years he left me alone till just recently he accused me of recieving massive amounts of minerals claiming that I paid for them with real money, I showed them that I am part of a corp in drone space and since I no longer had my own jump freighter I turn in my minerals to the alliance and they give them to my high sec toons minus the 20% handling fee. He wouldn't even listen to me in spite of the fact that the alliance mate that moved the minerals for me apparently contacted him confirming what I said so I requested my petition to be elevated to a senior GM, and cancelled my accounts. Guess who showed up responding to my petition as a Senior GM, yep Nova again and this time just to be petty he accused me of recieving skills illegaly and removed a pile of SP from my toons, not that it bothered me since the accounts are already candelled, but recieving SP illegaly I'm pretty sure is impossible in the game mechanics, short of me having a rogue GM in my pocket doing it for me. And yes I do have money but not quite that much unfortunately. After doing some online research I found articles about this particular GM having been part of the Band of Brothers mess where the GMs joined a player corp and unbalanced the game, as well as references to him being part of the Goon corp in game and altering game mechanics to win battles. I've also found information that he is one of the part owners of the game and an original founder, these things I can't personally confirm but they are consistent with the behavior that I've seen. So there you have it, like I said it's a great game if you get into it but there is absolutely no accountability for the GMs that I've seen at least not for Nova anyway. On the up side Rift seems like a good game so far, bye bye EVE.
