EVE Online News - Apocrypha Live

Posted by Keith Cross on Mar 10, 2009  | 5 comments in our forums

CPP has announced that Apocrypha, the tenth expansion for EVE Online is now live. During the down time they also posted a role-played news feed to introduce the phenomena of wormholes.

Reykjavik, Iceland March 11, 2009- CCP, one of the world's leading independent game developers, has deployed EVE Online: Apocrypha, the tenth free expansion for EVE Online. Delivering a massive amount of content in a shortened production schedule, Apocrypha is sure to satisfy pilots of all types with the mysterious appearance of unstable wormholes that lead to dangerous and rewarding, hereto unexplored regions of space, a new level of technology that allows for a staggering echelon of ship production and a re-imagined introduction for rookie starship pilots to a life in EVE's challenging universe. The release also coincides with a return to retail stores for EVE Online.

"Incredible rewards and certain death await explorers brave enough to fly into the unstable wormholes that have opened across EVE Online's universe," says Torfi Frans Olafsson, Senior Producer for EVE Online. "While EVE is certainly darker and more dangerous, it has also become accessible with our revamped new player experience, improved UI and renovated graphics and effects. Beginning your chosen path in EVE has never been easier."

There's no actual link to the article you wrote up O_o? The two links only go off to specific eve sites that mention nothing about what you've quoted, halp :( ?

I have been with EVE from the beginning, and I am not afraid to state that Apocrypha is the best EVE expansion to date.

The amount of added new content (should not be confused with re-skinning of old mobs that we know from other MMOs) and upgrades to graphics and UI (skill training/fitting screen) makes this truly an expansion, that will add a lot of interest and fun to many players in the years to come.

A couple of very minor complaints.

The new warp and stargate effects seem a tad cartoony, compared to how they were.

Also the change to the warp make it seem, (to me at least) that when coming out of a warp, approaching a stargate, it now has a look and feel of the stargate approaching my ship, rather than my ship approaching the stargate.

Still, I'm sure after a few days, I'll have forgotten how it was and be completely used to the new style, so no harm, no foul.

I agree dhayes.  I was disappointed that they changed the warp graphics.  I feel more like I"m underwater during warp, rather than in space.  The old warp graphic also felt like I was traveling much faster, compared to this new look.

But oh well, I'm already getting use to it.  For such a large expansion, if a simple warp graphic is the only thing we can complain about, I'd think it's safe to say they've done a wonderful job so far haha!
