But... I'm pretty much just intimidated by the game. If I had some friends joining me in game it would be much easier for me to give it a try. I have basicaly been dancing around playing this game for almost a year now. It looks complex enough to hold my interest probably for an eternity. I'm just worried about the inital jolt my MMO-Brain will feel when I get into the game and realize I have no idea what I'm doing.

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to help me out in game?. I'm not asking to have my hand held or anything of that sort but knowing someone or a group of someones in game who I can occasionaly shoot a possibly moronic question at always helps.

Do they have a buddy system in this (aka recruitment) I thought I seen something like that stickied up top. Is that just a slightly longer trial or is there some other benefit?

Anyhow, I'm very interested in the game, the more I research the more it peaks my interest. But at the same time overwhelms me a bit.

It's great that you want to join the game. And yes, the initial hurdle does become a lot easier to overcome with some friends or help. There are a few people on the forums who will provide a helping hand as you start out. Other than that, the "Help" channel is also a good resource. The best you can do, however, is research beforehand and remember that google is your friend.

The buddy program (stickied) offers a 21-day trial vs. the standard 14-day trial.

Yeah, I know quite a lot of people who have done many trials, but never actually got stuck into the game until they played it with a friend or someone who can help them out.

Thinking back now, the only reason I got into it was because I had a buch of friends on teamspeak when I played guildwars, and they'd often talk about eve.  So when I go into it I knew a lot of people already and they helped with a lot of advice and just answering noob questions.

One thing is for sure, its best to actually talk to someone use voice comm's about eve, typing out explanations seems to cause confusion, or people easily forget, eve players enjoy talking about eve and have many tales to tell and many answers to quetions are not especially long or complicated but they do present you with a great deal of options and so the merits of each options will give rise to further questions.

The in-game tutorials do a really good job of helping you get started and the in-game Rookie channel is constantly scrolling with questions.  Once you subscribe you can find a corp (most don't take folks on free trials) and they should be able to provide even more help.

At any rate, start up a trial and check it out.  Can't hurt, right?
