"Do ya ever think we will have people on the sun? I mean like, in the winter, when it''s cool"

BUT, it sure is complicated seeming. I mean in the noobie channel someone said - "read a few days worth of online websites and research on this game". Well DAMN! I just wanna play! It looks great, I just started (14day trial - will pick it up if I can get the hang of it). It's just soooooooooooo overwhelming.

I love sci-fi, this game looks great. I just hope I can figure it out - after a couple hours of play, I still don't know what's going on. I know how to fly my ship around and mine an asteriod and blow away a noob ship but, that's about it.

So..... no what? Do I just keep doing the training quests and eventually it will all come together? Are there noob helper corps out there? If so, how do I find them?

Could use a point in the right direction, I so want to like this game!

My Top 5 MMOs:
EvE
WAR
Ryzom
LotRO
AO

First things first Run all the tutorials and the newb 10 mission story arc.

It gives you a decent amount of skill books and 1-2 new frigates to try out.

Since your on the Trial I suggest training your learning skill to level 3 atleast then work on combat skills.

Once done with the initial 10 missions goto your map screen(F10) and set your stars to show available agents. this turns all your stars green with agents that have missions for you.

Go after combat missions they give good drops and nice Isk rewards after about 16+ missions you get a storyline mission that gives you an implant or some other item thats nice.

If you don't want to mess with missions right away you can do a little rat hunting. This involves warping to different star systems and checking asteroid belts for NPCs to kill, they drop nice gear and give decent bounty rewards. Just make sure you stay above .4 systems (0.0-0.4 = FFAPVP).

Once you get enough Isk buy a Salvaging skillbook it costs around 900k isk (don't worry it pays for itself in an hour or so). Salvaging lets you break down ships into rare materials used for rig crafting.

With salvaging you will be able to afford better equipment and get into bigger ships like a destroyer and cruiser.

do this for a while and you should get the basics of the game.

The voice of reason

Sorry to sound so harsh (in fact I'm not, the GAME is harsh) but if you can't be bothered to read up on stuff before doing it you're in for a world of hurt, followed by you saying "what a crappy game this is I lost <insert amount of isk> to this exploit (which it wasn't, just a game mechanic you chose not to learn about), I'm QUITTING!".

Seriously, no joke. Read up on stuff before doing. If that sounds like a difficult prospect to you them maybe you must decide that EVE might not be for you because you'll run headfirst into concrete walls wherever you'll find them. It's a long term MMO, not BF2142.

"Do ya ever think we will have people on the sun? I mean like, in the winter, when it''s cool"

Thanks guys, super helpful post, I am in fact training learning lvl 3 as we speak (14 hrs to go). It was suggested on the channel to do the 10 training story mission things. I'm doing that as well. Thanks for the feedback guys. I am not going to call this a crappy game regardless of if I start playing it or not but, I have a good feeling about this one.

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin

OK, you don't want to read hours of gaming guides, how about you read at least this one.

And if you aren't too far down the road yet, make sure you created your character correctly, the choices you make now impact you for the rest of your career. (yes it would be worth you starting over)

There's a lot more I could share, but if you at least start off with these two you'll have a much better start.

Let's not kid ourselves, or deminish the frustration some new players feel when entering EVE. EVE is harsh, it is complex, it does have a high learning curve. It has depth and does not hold your hand. But, it is this complexity and depth that we most love about EVE.

MMORPGs come in two major design styles: The Themepark (EQ, WoW, WAR, etc) and the Sandbox (EVE, SWG Pre-CU, UO, etc). Themepark games account for the vast majority of those on the market at this time. They are more simplistic, they hold your hand, and they define set goals and ways to play in their world. This is what most players are used to when they first hit EVE. Sandbox games like EVE are more open, aren't as linear, and don't define your path in the game the way a Themepark do. This requires a lot more player initiative, thought, and attention. So it's to be expected most new players will have this reaction. Berating them for their shock and frustration is counterproductive.

Sandbox games are not for everyone. Not all players will enjoy what EVE offers. But for those that do manage to get past the initial shock of being left adrift in an open world to do as they wish without a safety net or park guide, the rewards are great.

EVE is one of the last great sandbox games (SWG is gone and UO has faded into it's sunset years). Hopefully we will see more well designed, intelligent and complex games developed in the future, but for now, EVE holds a unique place in the industry. Hopefully the OP can overcome the starkness and harshness of those first few days in EVE and come to love it for that very complexity that initially challenged them.

EVE is great, one of the best MMOs i have ever played for sure. If not THE best imo. It has unique skills system which doesnt require the eternal grinding to level up. It has hundreds of diferent skills and templatates for your character. Economy is very complex and it works great. The community is solid and most times u can find 20000+ players online. The game is very complex, very complete and very very fun.

I love it!
