eve career flow chart

http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/

99% of eve can be chocked up to mostly rehashed gameplay anyways all with the same means to and end, while letting your ship avatar roam around and play the game for you.

This game is absolutely terrible requires no skill and basically allows any newb to just walk in and play space ships, they try to talk big about how their systems are ground breaking but you can't even actually play the game, you click some really over elaborate UI menus then you click some other things that allow your ship to automatically play itself.

The game is boring and redundant and if you actually read this "career flow chart" you can see that more than 90% of the things could be consolidated under the same category or have already been done better in another game.

This game will always have hardcore fanboys with its ease of use and f2p model, to try and downplay darkfall unholy wars is sad as it will blow this shit game out of the water, but ya you're right eve is free... For a reason, go try it you'll be back soon!

Never knew eve was free.  You're an odd duck.

Also even if you get rid of most things on that chart, there's still more things to do or experience in EVE than Darkfall.  If you get rid of like 1 thing to do in darkfall, there goes a third of the value lol

as I said though, easiest way for OP is to try it using the free trial that CCP offers with EVE.

Make his own determination.

And then try Darkfall... whenever it gets released (lol)

Does darkfall unholy wars have its own website even?  Or an offical release date on a website owned by the company making it?  I mean, I know they do have a release date on their blog but according to that, Darkfall Unholy Wars came out 17 days ago... lol

But yeah, at least try darkfall whenever they get around to releasing it, or releasing the release date.  Hopefully in the next couple months at least one of those will happen.

Eve is shit that's why no one actually plays the game they just use it as a wow clone and social hub all day, and when they are playing they aren't because you don't play in EVE eve plays itself.

Sad that so many people like this boring and shallow gameplay really at least you actually have to have some form of brain or reaction time to play a style game like darkfall where pvp is visceral and fast paced... what you do in eve is troll around on a little spaceship that shoots lasers (by itself) oh my gash how kewl... Also i could remove 1 or 2 things from EVE and it would also have almost no depth, because it's completely rehashed gameplay over and over.

So many newbs defend this game like it's the holy grail of mmo's when really it's nothing more than a crafting social hub where pvp is nothing but a long boring light show. Thanks for trying to get more people to cut their eyes out in boredom though hahaha

For somebody who hates Eve you spend a lot of time posting about it.

Did you lose an expensive ship, rage quit and now feel the need to bash the game?

I would never play a new MMO on launch, its asking to get burned. Also i never would play the relaunch of a failed MMO on launch. Actually i don't even read previews or stuff like that on upcoming MMOs because they tend to be full of hyped up bullshit.

If a new MMO is any good ... i'll gladly wait half a year before getting invested in it on one of the new servers they had to launch due to its continuing growth. Heh, yeah fat chance of that.

That being said, they are very different games if you look beyond the fact that both are pvp centric MMOs. EvE has very meaningful crafting, hauling, ganking and griefing, usually in that order btw. Also the landholding stuff in eve is meaningful, its not just some variation of capture the hill for the sake of ... capturing the hill. Its not just a castle or some town you built, its actually the centre of your gameworld. You actually live there, sometimes for years. Its where every aspect of the game you participate in happens, and if you loose it you loose your home

I mean in some other games you have this land you own, and you go there to defend it, between playing the actual game in other places, like dungeons, instances or battlefields etc. Sure in EvE you sometimes go raid your neighbors, but its a very local thing, you really get to know the people you kill after a while. And even if you have no idea what those guys in local said right before they got podded ecause thy seak some gibberish language, you know they where expressing their hate and malevolence towards you. Or begging to spare atleast their pods, who knows.

So yeah, give DF some time, not saying the game will be good or bad since i have zero interest and thus information on it, but mmo history says that waiting a couple months to see how a MMO developes has a high chance of saving you some bucks and nerves. EvE is a known quantity, what you want can imho be done there and you always have the option to rage quit your free trial.

I would like to add that while darkfall uw may release on the 12th, it's only really known that it will release to people that have already bought df1.  So you may not be able to buy upon release if you haven't.  Also if/when a trial will come up is unknown atm.

I could never get into EvE, think it was the boring combat. No real control over my ship really turned me off. If it was EvE as it is ow but I could have proper control of my shit now that would be epic

So for me it would be DF.

You do have direct control over your ship, but not wasd controls. I think given the size of ships we pilot and their abilities the controls are appropiate. Though i get what you mean, Xwing vs Tie Fighter this is not. That being said the combat is not positional anyway, i.e. your not trying to get into your opponents back or LoS him.

EvE is just very different due to the difference in ships thats vastly bigger than any difference between chars in a fantasy game could get. We are literally talking about factors of 10-20 in terms of HP, speed and damage output and thats not even bringing capitals into it. Also weapons are omnidirectional due to turret systems and guided missiles being used(compared to say xwing where your guns where centered to the front of your ship and you used the joystick to bring targets into the crosshair), not to mention that you can't dodge shots anyway(i don't care how quick your reflexes are, lasers are quicker) so there would be little point in rocking a joystick around(unlike star wars, where lasers travel at 1/10th of the speed of a conventional bullet).

I can't even imagine a game like EvE with direct controls. I mean i loved Xwing, but man if i had been in one of the helpless big ships that where pointlessly shooting at me ... i bet that wouldn't have been fun.

I couldn't stay with EVE for long for the same reason Mad+Dog stated. It just doesn't give you the same connection to your avatar (the ship, in EVE's case) that games like Darkfall does. I think that the more you've played FPS games through the years, the more reliant on input/feedback you are.

I'm sure some people will just chalk it up to our need for instant gratification, but I'd disagree; as this implies that we need to blow up another player every 10 seconds to feel engaged (which is false). It's just down to a fundamental disconnect that we aren't able to adapt to.

There's no chance that EVE will be able to change it's fundamental approach to combat for the same reasons you stated. Guys like me can appreciate the depth of EVE in terms of politics and strategy, but we will never enjoy it on a gameplay level.

EVE is probably way easier for RTS guys to get into.

Well, if you enjoy the theme and mechanics from both games, then I would go for EVE. And then maybe check in 6 months or so what Aventurine managed to create.

Av has not done this either..

DF:UW is a new game, just like Everquest 2 was a new game.. or Guild Wars 2 for that matter.. Only difference is that AV closed down their old game..

As for the choice between EVE and Darkfall...

Well they are both very different games other than the fact they are both MMORPGs and both sandbox type games they dont really have anything else in common.

@OP do you like SCI-FI games ? Big ships, tab targeting, massive crafting system and so on..

Or do you like fantasy games with FPS syle fast based combat?

Hopefully you will know what you like..

You might actually be right. Big fights in EVE are fought (at least if you're even semi-serious) with maximum zoom-out, watching brackets and overview.

Which is damn sad, of course, as EVE looks pretty sweet up close. I would also love a more direct approach when it comes to flying in EVE, but I'll still take the current version over any other game, as the depth of the world is just unparallel.

About comparing to DF - no point. Two different games, really. And the other hasn't even launched yet.

this makes sense.  I am not a fan of rts's at all and no matter how many times i retry EVE (i want to like the game).  I just can't get into it...

So i preordered darkfall and am awaiting the beta while playing some ac2
