Good concept but poor management and follow through with the design. The game is fun but quickly turns to a chore/job and loses any ounce of fun that it initially had.

Strangely addictive if you can make it far enough (a couple hours) to get your sea legs under you. My only complaint is the lack of character creation, which is just plain bizarre.

I have been looking for a game like this for ages, It's a skill based mmo, not level based.
Highly suggest it, have tried many many mmo's looking for this feel, but I suggest paying right off the bat and finding a good group of players to team up with right away as the game is just more fun when you share it with others.
You can terraform the whole map, craft items, craft buildings, boats, etc....
Similar to Minecraft but more in depth.

Free-form sandbox building is very good, one of the most involved and flat out fun parts of the game. Done better than many counterparts as well. Advancement is often built around needless time blocks, such as meditation or priesthood, or just a lengthy and needless skill grinding system anywhere else. The landscapes are fairly nice, but animations and combat leave a great deal to be desired. For the most part the game is fun to try, but it mostly left me wishing various systems were more thoroughly developed before spending more time on it.

The idea behind it is great, there is a lot to do and it can be a lot of fun, but the realisation is a bit disappointing, everything is nonessential complicated and the world is very overcrowded by buildings and fences(maybe another Server would help?). The terrain is also not realy made for building, either there is water, or steep gradients. Xsyon isn't that complex yet, but way smoother to play.

skill system is great. tons of skills that are improved only by using them.
The only game I have seen that allows the players to have so much control of the environment.
on the other hand goals past having something to eat tomorrow are lacking and the combat system is a joke.
the devs are active and working to improve it though, you see an update pretty often to improve the graphics and I am told that avatar customization (none at all at the moment, you all look exactly the same) is high on the list

The sandbox game I always loved "on paper". Tried it once or twice in the past and got a little frustrated but either their recent updates helped, or I was just in a better frame of mood for it. But I am really enjoying myself immensely this time around. Perfect for those who like building their own homesteads from scratch, and making up their own game stories rather than riding the quest-rail themepark MMOs. They say they will be improving character models (a very small indie dev team, and originally co-founded by Notch of the popular Minecraft game).

This game is THE SANDBOX. You are free to try it, and you will like it, if you like sandboxes. I dont know why this game is called Wurm online, it should be called "The Sandbox" or something :)

Been hearing about this game for awhile, and finally gave it a try. After a week of free play I am subscribing. The Graphics are a mixed bag. The environments are great for an indie dev, but the player models themselves are dissapointing. They are stiff and animations are laughably bad. Sound is nothing special. Role playing potential is there once you can customize your avatar more. Value is great, you get 2 months for a little more than 1 month compared to other MMOs. The performance works great at times, but sometimes it crashes, the fps skips around more than it should, etc. All of the bads are easily offset, IMO, by the unique features the game has. There is nothing else like it out atm. You can change the landscape, taking away land and adding it elsewhere. You can dig mines, you can build structures, etc. Everything is player crafted, and the community is by far the best of any game I've played.
