Originally posted by Jakdstripper It is F2P, but you can't do many 'griefworthy' actions without a sub. The game simply *must* have a sub as a deterrant to such, like Darkfall or MO, or EVE, as nobody is willing to actually have monetary loss attached to the risk of getting a ban. True F2P in a setting with that much 'freedom' causes organized asshatting (see; 4chan). Wurm players have enough stories about this already, and so would other games that 'require' a certain barrier to entry. Also, Haven and Hearth would have a way better community if there was a manditory subscription to PvP and murder, but I expect those loving how they can be a jerk and make as many accounts as they want to say how it would ruin the game... for them. I've tried to get into Wurm a few times but can never do so. Got a few friends to try it with me last time and we were completely lost. We ended up rerolling, then finding a guy with a boat that offered to take us someplace we could get some land. Unfortunately, his boat glitched into the dock and we had to trek on foot. Needless to say, we got seperated and couldn't find any direction as to where to go.
The game looks like a lot of fun and I've always wanted to get into it but I just can't figure out where to go. Is there a map or something I can review to see where we need to go? I was considering dragging my boyfriend into it.... |

Originally posted by TheOtter "need to go" is not the name of the game. You just build a settlement and survive, you could have parked and started *anywhere*, but the one place you would 'need to go' eventually is the very place to spawned at in order to get a deed so you can claim your land all legit-like. It costs 10s (1o euros) and requires upkeep after that 10s is eaten by the deed. Otherwise, you don't really need one, but everything will decay offdeed, and the land is technically not yours, so anyone else can deed over a spot you havent put a house on. ~also, you can type /suicide and spawn back at the starting point to get one, as well as meet with all your friends, and you wont drop your noob tools - but everything else will. Never keep money on you, always bank it. Once you find a patch of land to work with, use the wiki to figure the rest out. It's linked to the very game site itself, and is a *must use* resource as much as the minecraft wiki is. Same guy made both games, after all, and there is tons of noob-friendly survival guides, and lists of all craftable items and their requirements there too. The game is amazing the moment you're willing to *learn* it.
~In fact, I'm going to do everyone a solid and start writing a guide for noobs to this game, vote for sticky when it's done. Writer / Musician / Game Designer Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4 |

Thanks for the replies, we are going to try it again tonight I think. The issue we had was everywhere we tried to do anything, we got warnings about something, which didn't allow us to do anything. Was rather confusing. I will admit we didn't put a ton of time into trying to figure things out (we assumed the land we were trying to build in was claimed). We will give it a whirl tonight and see what becomes of it. |

Now I'm assuming you tried to dig in random spots and you misinterpreted the message telling you that you don't have the skill to dig there. Writer / Musician / Game Designer Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4 |

It was a good 5-6 months ago, so I don't remember. I do remember we tried to dig, cut a tree down and like fish or something... |

theotter, last time its possible that you tried to dig an cut trees in a deed. Around the starter areas of servers can be quite crowded and deeded. Most of the time, you have to walk away far enough to do anything decently. This is the case for most of freedom servers but epic is fairly underpopulated. Despite being dangerous because of pvp, home servers can be a nice start for you. You can easily find places to settle and call for help anytime you see enemies, run to starter town if its close enough. Let me assure you that you will get response to your call. Until you get enough skill to fight you can be relatively safe wih the help of experienced players |
