Hi there, Over the last few days, weeks and months, Wurm Online has undergone very broad and, in some cases, very noticeable changes. This is not isolated to development of the server but also of the client, game art, sounds and website.
Starting in March with new tree models and an array of other improvements and optimisations, the art developers have worked very hard to fill many of the gaps in Wurm’s visual appearance both in-game and on the website. They have also spent time updating creating new models for new and upcoming features, many of which contribute towards our goal to provide greater freedom for players to customise and decorate the world around them.
The game client has also undergone extensive improvements, focusing both on optimisation and utility, so that players get more performance and functions out of their client while at the same time consuming less resources. Not only this, but extensive bug catching and fixing has been a priority, and as a result the client runs far better than it has ever before due to the multitude of little fixes and tweaks here and there which have led to an overall huge improvement.
Supported by improvements to the way the client handles sound, many improvements and additions have been made to this aspect of Wurm. One notable example is the introduction of female voices which has been a long time coming! Further combat sounds have been introduced so you can really feel the crunch of that scorpion under your maul, for example, and in general a much greater number of actions now have high quality sounds.
Moving forward to the pièce de résistance, the game server has undergone changes and improvements of its own. From the introduction of more items such as lamps, signs and now walls, to the new missions code for the tutorial and fixes for some of Wurm’s little annoyances such as needing a mallet to finish a mallet, foraging on empty tiles and destruction of items when failing to craft. As part of the large post-summer update, skill decay was removed and crafting certain items was made easier to reduce the need for prolonged grinding.
We feel that this progression over the last few months has contributed greatly to an improved atmosphere within the game. Less bugs and other general annoyances combined with improved visuals and performance have naturally resulted in Wurm becoming an altogether more enjoyable world for the players. This also goes for the staff, who are becoming more able to focus on new features, rather than fix the shortcomings of older features.
Hopefully this short-ish summary of Wurm’s development over the last few months has been helpful. You can of course register and try the game for free from our website, and if you’re looking for more information regarding the changes Wurm has undergone over the last few months, the forums are a goldmine.
Happy Gaming from Wurm Online!

It all looks good but.... player animations? Seems like it should sort of be a big deal. -------------------------------- |

Not a bad game at all, quite enjoyable. And given the small download size, the game looks quite nice. |
