The post-apocalyptic MMOG, Fallen Earth, will finally launch today. The game is currently down for a launch day patch, but is set to go live at 3PM EST today, delayed slightly from the 1PM EST launch time posted earlier.
Check back here for any changes to the game's start time.
hope theres not much clogging... theres currently ONE server for live and they don't plan more in the near futur..

This item will be released on September 29, 2009
You are confusing the launch date of a live game, with the date that a store will be receiving or placing the box software up for sale.
Its not like game boxes magically appear on store shelves.
If only it had a lot more money behind it.
Source pls.
Anyone care to speculate on the influx of new players today? Any reason why a large number of players would wait until today to start?
My #1 hope for the release patch - Scrap plastic at the Science Merchant!
My #1 fear - a Champions Online style overhaul.
I'm easy

I think most who are going to play will have been on the headstart. There's probably a few like me who are waiting for the HS folks to clear out the way so lag is less in the starter towns and mobs won't be as camped... but I don't plan on starting today anyway, I'll wait for the weekend.

So the launch date is for a digital download only?
Hurray, ive been havin a great time in FE. Come join us ;)
I may be proven wrong, but I don't see a massive influx of players today. I see more of a measured increase in numbers over time as the method in which this game will grow, short and long term.
Good lord it was busy those last few days of beta. The dev team really did a killer job polishing up a bunch of issues and fast. Albeit the game is rough it sure is better then I expected it to be. Grats to Icarus studios. I really do see this game having a long term but small following and thats a good thing for a niche game.
Unfortunately many of the great concept games made by smaller / indie developers seems to suffer from this problem.
Mortal Online, Fallen Earth, Darkfall to mention a few ...
I hope Earthrise is not next. I love the idea of indie developers and the games they try to make, but that doesn't mean I will play games with 1990s graphics or pay monthly fees to beta test or pay for something with no pve or no pvp content.
I want the complete package... lol
So the launch date is for a digital download only?
Unless your store has a copy of it in stock right now and you go buy it and install it. The Amazon.com date you pointed out is for Amazon only. that's when they estimate they will get box copies in to ship out to you. Other stores that are carrying box copies may very well have gotten said copies in last night or yesterday and those copies are on shelves for purchase right now. The launch date is today, 9/22/09, for anyone that has a copy of the game, no matter where they got the copy (D2D, FE website, box from Best buy, etc.).
I've been playing the game for the last 2 days, it's not bad but the problem i see with the launch is the population. There will be too many players and not enough mobs. It's already a problem in Sector 1, you get lots of players doing the same series of quests and not enough mobs.
With only one server and no instancing like Champion Online, everyone is in the same place trying to do the same quests. And so far, the game seems to have a lot of difficulty handling many peoples in the same areas. I've experienced game crashes only when entering crowded area.
I think they should open a couple more servers to disperse the population or it's gonna be very frustrating trying to quests with 100 of others for the same wolf kill.
YAY!
Finally it launches : )
I like postapocalyptic settings, desolate landscapes, crafting and large areas to explore. But I'm also very picky in matters of MMORPGs. So I guess I will join sooner or later, but first have a mistrusting look from the distance for a few more days or weeks.

Please to not be lumping fallen earth with those other games. Fallen earth has more features and a higher level of competency than the others can even dream of.

Thanks. The reason I will be getting from Amazon is because I have their credit card. I get a 25.00 gift certificate for every 2500 points. 3 points per dollar spent on amazon and 1 point anywhere else, so I use that credit card for everything and pay it off at the end of the month. I get all my games pretty cheap. This game will cost me 22.00 after the gift certificate. ;-)
I think there will be a throng tonight, but not too bad. From what I've seen there has been a steady trickle all through headstart of new players that will continue after launch. They aimed for a EVE model and seem to be getting that, slow steady increase, little or no attrition. Increase of a steady player base means more developement cash.
Meh I'm an optimist.
Also plastic scraps are common on merchants in s2, take a road trip :)
There is instancing in FE just not as much as other games, they want to encourage spontanious grouping. Just yell out that you going for a particular mob boss or group of mobs and you'll get a group together fast.
Awesome I am glad you are playing. You do realize however that you need to spend $833.33 to get that $25 gift certificate though according to your numbers. I like FE but its not worth that much lol!
Server went up at 3PM EST, 10 minutes later we get this :
Server need to be restarted, ETA 1 hour.
Fun, fun.
Edit ETA is now 5PM....
Enjoy the game, guys. I won't be playing because there are no game cards.
Gotta spend money on groceries, gas, cigarettes, booze anyways. Use the card, pay it off every month, no interest plus I get money back.
The money is free!
higher level merchants have plastic and it may not be on the science merchant.
also in the PVP area north of ummm that far north east town (right hand side) there is alot of plastic and a medical thing only the throwbacks and some cockroaches in the area stay away from the roaches there a pain. you can get stacks of plastic there.
this "bug" was brought up months ago in beta but they didnt do anything about it.
i shudder to think what oilville is gonna be like especially with 100 horses thrown on top.

That's because its not a bug, nor is it broken, players just need to spread out more, and they will. Spawn times in sector one is already rather fast. There is enough game world to house everyone, just not all in one spot.
oilville happens to be a bottleneck all noobs from the 6 different starting towns level into oilville about the same time. so it will be 6x as worse than ant other city.
a few things still on my list...
water ditch in monkeytown
travel times overly long (steam train)
costume clothing / clothing toggles
crafting que ability to pause one and craft another (shift priorities)
radiation barrier defined more obvious,, with rad meter clicker
vehicles need vehicle physics (jumping)
horse population gonna be a problem after release as in 100+ horses standing in oil
repeatable quests not identified
need grenage physics includes the poisons and acids
need shotgun physics not slug
shotgun damage out of wach 410 is the smallest NOT the bigest (12,20,410)
factions are wattery and have no unique contrast.
no player chat channels
no tiered clan bank security
need more player choice in crafting dyeing or other customizations like a blue mororcycle or green berret or spicy chicken (vs normal chicken)
no /follow command
no /drag command
ability to abort a loot or harvest by moving (foward)
if i had to pick the most critical for game it would be vehicle physics and customization,, even though the train and shotguns are important to me.
is this game worth it?............i will play casual with ryzom
I wonder if people will be this excited about the real zombie apocalypse.
CAAAAAAAAAAAN YOOOOOOOOOOOOU DIIIIIIIIGGGGG ITTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!
I kind of feel bad for this game. Having the same release date as Aion is pretty overwhelming. Not to mention other non-MMOs like Halo:ODST.
I played FE in early closed beta and felt ok about it. The game mechanic's were very interesting, but it was at an unplayable state. Lot's of bugs and my computer couldn't handle the graphics at the time. But, I'm sure this game will do fine in the long run. Might try it out later in the year, but for now I'm sticking with Aion.

MrB, I have seen you these forums many times in favor of this game and I aplaud you for it.
Unfortunately, in the instance, your wrong, sorry.
I brought up this type of situation after the second week of Alpha but was ignored. Now, we are seeing reality take affect.
There arent enough scavenge nodes. Spawn camping is a major issue atm. Doesnt matter if its a Scavenge spawn or Quest npc spawn, there just arent enough to make the game work right now.
Not saying the game is bad, just poorly thought out as to demand by players.
Will give it a try tomorrow. Good job Icarus.
shotgun damage out of wach 410 is the smallest NOT the bigest (12,20,410)
Sorry, but that is correct. Shotgun bores are rated, smallest to largest as .410, 28, 20, 12, 10 etc.
A .410 is in fact the smallest commercial shotgun bore in use to my knowledge. It' is a measurement of the bore in inches diameter. Like many things, the numbering is counter-intuitive.
Shotgun gauges are determined by the number of lead balls of a given diameter required to make one pound of that size ball. Thus 10 balls of 10 gauge diameter are required to make one pound of such balls, or 20 balls of 20 gauge diameter are required to make one pound, and so forth. This is a relative numbering system and does not correspond to a diameter measurement, only the .410 does so.

There is an insane amount of nodes out and away from towns, all you have to do is explore.
Many things, such as coyotes, do not have to be killed in the exact spot to count for the quest, any coyotes will do. this applys to the majority of quest mobs. Again, this is not broken, players simply need to spread out.
For all intents, this is simply player learned behavior that things only count in the sport you are pointed to, and that they dont need to go far from a town to find resources. Its not broken.
Hop on your horse, pick a direction, and go. you will come back with full stacks of resources, and encounter many quest mobs.
I agree this game has a change to do what EvE did. Start small and with some basic feature to keep the attention of a small player base and grow from there
I'm not so shure about that. I believe that they are not trying to compete with AION in the sence of subscription numbers.
They could care less about AION, other than wishing them all the luck. Its players that have some obsession with "Waring".
I think this game just needs a little polishing, and some massaging of the net code to go from a good game to a great game.
