As they creep ever closer to launch, the team from Icarus Studios is providing us with a few exclusive screenshots from their upcoming MMO Fallen Earth.
Fallen Earth is a post-apocalyptic MMO that takes place in and around the area surrounding the Hoover Dam. Check out their official website.
Nice. The regularity of screenshots coming from Icarus' looks to mean they intend to maintain the 9/9/09 launch date. For an indie developer I'd say this constitutes as a "PR blitz", keeping in mind we have no idea how much money they have to invest in such a "blitz".
I dunno about their marketing strategy... But they sure know what they are doing development wise. Maybe some bad artists and 3D modellers, it all looks a bit like... or very much like, Jagged Alliance 2, but in 3D. But the game... oh the game. Solid, from top to bottom. Freeform MMO with hints of AO in the character system and an amazing amount of stuff to do. I am knocked back. Whoever they ar.e. however small company they have... they loved the old MMOs and they want to build somehting similar. But with more guns... and more mutants... and motorcycles... and huge bugs... and other assorted weaponry... tons upon tons of weaponry... and you can carry them all at the same time.
I really do not know what I am doing here, I am leaing this forum and going back right now!
FE has great potential, and there's a LOT to like, but I can't get over the targetting. Combat feels too twitchy, too FPS-like with the cross-hair targetting. If they were to institute tabbed-/locked-targetting, I'd preorder the game. Its crafting is second to none IMHO.
It's hard to judge a game's graphics simply by looking at screenshots. I have seen some of the pictures after they remade the models and I think the look of the game has improved immensely over it's original look.
I do think the color palette is a little boring, but appropriate to the theme.
Over all I'm looking forward to trying this game out myself.
I 'm wondering why many companies do have such problems making decent looking characters instead of fat dough puppets with stupid facial expressions and bad hair.
