Ultima Online - Memories.

Ultima Online review from the old days.
Disclaimer: The following article is the sole opinion of its author and does not represent in its thoughts or opinions. This is not an official editorial article.

This review is decades old however, I have the most opinions and thoughts regarding this once epic game. I started Ultima Online in fall 1997, My brother and I were excited since we were playing Serria Online's King's Quest and heard of this game we could play with other people throughout the world. We fumbled through the clumsy U.I and G.U.I to understand the game and calling customer support to get our CD's registered (you had to call customer support back in the day and a real person picked up, I know weird right?) After the hour to took to get the game installed, Registered and activated we finally were able to login to this magical world we could never believe existed. I remember my first time running around Minoc and exploring the small caves, mines and first coming across the moon gate. Graphics were astounding to me, however as I progressed I took my lumberjacks axe and I thrust for blood, I came across a chicken and decided this would be my first victim. I remember clearly even more than 10 years later, the Chicken had an SXF of the Dragon instead my speakers ROARED as this chicken which did not die as I hoped, chased me down the back roads of minoc to vespa.  I let out a big sigh as I escaped the DraChicken of doom (as I called it). Looking that great style and magical feel of Vespa I decided to change my character completely and forces on magic. I began studying magic and learned the key spells filled up my magic book and GM Magery. After a while I learned more and more and explored this vast world and until I came across this guy [Dr.Twister] unknowing to me was my older brother at the time. He chased me around and killed me the excitement was too much I had to explore this thrill even more. A month had passed and I started ranking up my skills and finding new ways to torture people, however the greatest ability I learned was GM Hiding and Magery and I became to grief players while killing them. I had so much fun this 2d game world that I could never forget a single day I played. However, I started making a name for myself and people began to fear me, however never ceased to try and kill me.

Ultima Online had the right idea for PVP and Loot System off the bat. The game play was enjoyable and replayablity was unmatched even to new games today. The Rip-offs or "Inspired by Ultima" games such as Darkfall and Mortal Online I feel did not do it justice and failed to compete properly or live up to what Ultima Online was. Back then Players had fun and took the game as it was, a game. I feel that games and Game Companies today should learn how it ran and how the game population handled itself. To me ultimately Ultima Online changed my life, I met life long friends that I had met in real life, and inspired to me learn more about gaming. My review of Ultima was more of a long story about me and my time there, but it is the only way I know how to explain things.
