Ultima Online News - Archery Skill Guide

Posted by Jon Wood on Feb 06, 2009  | 7 comments in our forums

MMORPG.com's Vitaliy Dikker has provided us with this guide to the Archery Training Skill in Ultima Online.

Archery is for ranged fighting. This is good, because you can do damage to your opponent and stay safe unlike melee fighters. The difficulty is making sure you are far away enough to reload safely, but not so far away that your shooting range is limited.

As an archer you will need a ridiculous amount of arrows or bolts. If you train in fletching you will have a 99% chance of success to make these with only 30% skill level. You will need to gather wood from the forest and kill birdies or harpies for feathers. Also, centaurs, ratmen mages, and juka lords are usually good sources of free arrows after you kindly explain you would like them to die and give you all their belongings. Alternatively, you could buy arrows and save time. I personally recommend doing just that!

When the extended skill scrolls were added to the game in a pvp dungeon they basically destroyed this game.  You no longer achieved top skills through your own efforts, you bought it.  Present players probably can't see how ruinous to the game this change was, but it was what lead to it's downfall for sure.

When top skills become saleable the game has real issues.

When they made the graphics update to this game it brought very few back, basically because graphics weren't the issue it was all the changes to the ruleset which they did not address.

Thats why I quit, skills should be earnt not bought. Still, no other game is like this. Had good times there. If they did an ultima 1.5 (like 2 except not if you know what i mean) i'd definately come back. Cause it's definately not about graphics.

Skill scrolls??  You poor souls still play this piece of crap?  Ultima Online died when EA took over(no surprise there) and they implemented Trammel back in 1999.  The only reason the name UO is still relevant anymore is because of how much MMORPG vets such as myself keep talking about and refering to the REAL World SImulation environment that the pre-trammel era provided that has not been seen by a single MMORPG til this very day.  Darkfall is the only game close to providing this feeling. The constant reference to this game "in the good ol days" is the only thing that attracts any new uninformed players to this game today.

As you can see anytime they create a new press release, forums like these are deserted.  Seriously, go away UO, you have let so many people down, the people making decsions over there are pathetic, you are totally clueless to what mmorpgers really want.

You've perverted Richard Garriot's creation to nothing more than a cheap 2D WoW clone.

Completely untrue.  Trammel reinvigorated the game.  UO was fine until they tried to make it like EQ in "Age of Shadows".  Please get your facts straight when posting.

I have a 10+ yr old UO acct. Trammel ruined the game, I lost interest about a year later and have barely touched the game since, I only keep the acct because my daughter enjoys making clothes....lol. I dilike WOW because all the PVP fighting, as with many MMOs is scripted and held in special arena etc. I have hope for Darkfall, please let it be like UO in the pre-tram, ie good, days. I want realism, I was never what we called a PK. I didnt kill others just to drive them crazy. I went after PKs with a gang of weaker players like myself and it was a blast. I want that back....thanks for reading my rant, Ifanyone knows of any other games,MMO, that they think I would enjoy ,please email me, Enigma2.0@gmail.com.  Aqnother OT note, playing ALOT of Fallout 3 right now on XBOX360, Love the game, would love to see a MMO based on it or similar. Again anyone know of anything like that??? Fell free to email me, just put MMO in the subject please. Or start a new thread here and email the link. I would like to discuss UO pre tram morer and just about anything else related to realism im MMOs.....tks

Try the game Oblivion, or other Elder Scrolls games.

Fallout I and Fallout II. If you enjoy fallout one and two at least _try_ the Fallout Tactics game.

Have fun!

Edit:  Ultima online is not my thing. Neither is Tibia which I find equal.
