In addition to the trials, there are also many "artifact encounters," which allow players access to items of varying power, though obtaining the items themselves are only the first part of the puzzle. Players must then discover how the item can be activated (you didn't think the Atlanteans would make it that easy now, did you?). Players activate these artifacts by locating magical scrolls that are present in various areas of the land. These scrolls are then brought to NPCs who use them to activate the artifact in question. Once activated, these artifacts gain superior abilities that grow as the item is used. That's right, not only can the player themselves gain new levels of experience, but the artifacts they wield can experience also. Crafters haven't been left out in this expansion either as those who've spent hours upon hours building their trade skills are able to alchemize superior underwater breathing potions (going to need those in Oceanus!) and elemental weapons. As is the case with many rare ingredients, some elbow grease is involved in obtaining these crafting components. Players must explore the newer zones and slay monsters to find what they seek.
Overvall, Dark Age of Camelot's latest expansion, "Trials of Atlantis" really hits the mark as a value-added addition to the current game. Mythic has pulled out all the stops from graphics, sound and gameplay perspectives. An updated graphics engine is a feast for the eyes, appropriately crafted music tickles the auditory senses, bold quest encounters quicken the heart rate and fabulous new items satisfy the treasure seeker. The only downside that one can glean from all of the new abilities available in this expansion is that players who don't upgrade may be left by the wayside in some of the most intense and amazing innovations in the MMO genre. One can only imagine what other secrets await the inhabitants of "Camelot" in the future.
