I would resub in a heart beat as well and would probably stay subbed after other games are released. DAoC was my first game and I would give all future games up to get back that feeling I had when DAoC was in its earlier stages. Back when people logged on, found a group, and headed out to Salisbury Plains or Mithra. Plus a new server would put everyone on an equal playing field again, which would be nice for rolling those not as easy to solo classes.

its a good move by mythic and just shows that DAoC still has some people for it   and not the whole team is working on WAR..

all around good move  and should bring a good number of subs back

THANK GOD! It only took 5 years for them to figure out they broke DAoC with all the new gadgets they pushed on us.

I went and read what this was but I never played DAoC past beta so,,,

Exactly what does this do, I understand that it removes all the expansions, but were the expansions really that bad?

Hell removing buffbots in any game is a great idea. I hate "Buff online" myself. If i can't play the game "normal" then I don't feel it needs to be played.

Down and dirty details please if you don't mind?

I'd probably resub as well but there were some details there I wanted and weren't given.

So if they think about doing it I hope they give some more details.

Looks to be something to get former subs back anyway.  Many of those that still play couldn't cut it on that ruleset imho.

Hmmm that would be fun. i would play till war came out. the problem would be if the fun and good dac players came back and didnt want to leave to go to war.

i think we ALL liked the 3 sided war as opposed to 2.

Ya know what... screw the old frontiers, emain sucked and beat down the por hibs.
How about w take new frontiers with no towers and just use everything BEFORE shrouded isles. the new maps were actually more fun becauuse they were balanced better imo.

If they do this, I will return.  Never really enjoyed the game as much since ToA.  SI was the only expansion worthy to added to the original game.

Yes, the expansions were that bad. It changed a RvR game into a PvE nightmare. Every expansion seemed to introduce a new overpowered class, and new PvE content you were forced to do to remain competitive. Basically, too much PvE content added and little to no RvR content added.

Battles went from lasting minutes to seconds. Casters became gods, melees had no increase in power. I personally got sick of playing a pve game that used to be a rvr one.

Well to be fair, not all the expansions were bad.  I really enjoyed Shrouded Isles.  Once they released Trials of Atlantis is when the game started going downhill quickly.

I played DAoC faithfully until ToA, then lost interest and moved on.  I did return for Catacombs and played for a while, but cancelled few months later due to real life concerns.  I would of resubbed but I refuse to play any game that has EA associated with it.

I downloaded and gave the trial a shot and well, I don't really like it. Couldn't get past the tutorial.

I tried several different classes, necromancer, one of the mages, and one of the warriors all from different realms and just couldn't get into it.

I know that their is 99.999% more game past the tutorial but as with most people, you can tell if you're going to like a game by the feeling you get from the controls, interface, and how fast it grabs your attention by the first couple of hours.

I think my MMO days are coming to an end. I've beta tested everything available but EQ1 and played nearly everything available except for the majority of the freebie games (the few I have played have sucked hard) and none of them grab me anymore. They're all the same in many respects and the ones that are unique have fatal flaws like a fucked up crafting system, horrid graphics(I can ignore to some extent), or just nobody around to play with. Only played AoC to lvl 9 on 3 different characters. I'll give it a shot a few months after launch when they offer a free trial to see if it's gotten any better.

I'm looking for something, and I'll figure out what it is when I find it.

This really just sounds like something to do with old hardware they have laying around the place.... "Hey, let's install this really old back up I found!"

The game was great, but really, the old frontiers were broken. Everyone fought in Hibernia, and if you wanted to go mess around in the frontiers, you had to go to the port fort, then look around for an hour or two hoping to find someone to kill, then move on to the next one. At least with the new frontiers it was easier and faster to move around.

True they are suggesting fixing the buffbot problem, but they still have major issues with overpowered stealth and crowd control.  Without major changes to those problems the game will still be a troubled step child that few find desirable.

Their solotions are always half done, they might as well not bother to make the effort.

That's the first thing that popped into my mind, then secondly that AoC is about to come out and should things not go so well Funcom can still project good numbers overall if they massage the subscriber numbers with those that are resubscribing to this new server. Was that a run on? Just throwing something out there.

One of the things a few people have said is that a new server would be nice to start over on.

If you hope to get away because you can start and progress on equal footing to everyone else, don't kid yourself.

The farmers will get over there before most of you do, getting control of the economy to make all new $$$ selling gold and items to the powergamers that are coming over.  Powerleveling the high level camps out in the epic zones & mobs in RvR will be up and running by day 2, and within a week it will be business as usual, only with all the old exploits added in for seasoning.

Line of sight, pet pathing, and a host of other problems still plague the game, but are consistently being overlooked and ignored for quick band aids like dumbing down TOA, clustering and class homogenization.

No resubs here.

How is Age of Conan going to massage their subscriber numbers with someone else's (DAoC's) subs?

DAoC and AoC have nothing to do with each other except they are both MMO's.

Maybe you meant that WAR is about to come out etc etc but WAR's not due out for quite  awhile yet.

Guys we can never go back. People can dream about the god old times but they can never ever return. It was wonderful back then but the world has moved on and trying to recreate good old times never works.

Yes Mythic broke a lot of the charm of the game when they made new frontier. And I literaly cried the last day of the OF where I just walked around looking at the places we have had so much fun knowing that the next day it would be gone (I had been one of the NF testers on pendragon).

But it has been 5 years. Much water has run into sea and the people who played back then are not the people they are today and the community cannot ever be the same again.

I would sign back up to play on this server the second or week it was to go live. I loved plaing Dark Age of Camelot. It was the only MMORPG I stayed long enough with to reach the end game and had full the entire time. The ability points system is annoying since you have to map out your character from the start at times but it was fun regardless. I'd come back for this new type of server for sure. Just the thought it has me installing the game (when I get home from work) just in case it ever does go live.

Shrouded Isles wasn't a bad expansion. The Atlantis expansion was bad and what did damage to the game though in both RvR and PvE but more RvR. Hard to say if ones after that did damage I think but won't miss them to much.  Catacombs was kinda needed after so many left I think since it made grouping harder and it made getting pick up groups together easier and allow for locations where people could gather. Without that I wouldn't have been able to get to the end game. Keep that but Darkness Rising can the Mino one can go to be honest. Not really attached to them.

I voted Yes, because I suspect that once WAR comes out later this year we'll find its considerably different from the game we knew and loved, and we'll not be satisfied with that.
