TOA and NF destroyed Daoc hope they learn their lessons.  ppl who are into pvp/rvr dont want to spend too much time doing pve and level artifacts.  NF is too big when there are not alot of ppl on u lose the fun factor.

DAoC RvR was either a love it or hate it deal. It was terribly imbalanced towards caster which sucked a lot of the fun out of it, but my best memories of any pvp/rvr fights are still from DAoC.

If only they could have balanced the Realms....

It's not the expansions that harmed DAoC .. Buff Bots did. :) So far DAoC is still the best RvR/PvP-Game out there and hopefully Mythic will adapt the core things in Warhammer Online ...

Agreed...

Having to pay for 2 accounts to do a little solo-kills (infiltrator) is kinda... sad :(

Without it's a nightmare.

I can't get myself into is since everything is instanced and I don't really have that many friends that play it.  The speed of leveling and the time to cap is good but as stated previously on this thread unless you are in a great guild it falls short.

I still think DAoC is the best game out there.. But yeah, its the people you play with that shape your experience - and running around all alone without friends is not why most of us play games online.. So i agree, its about finding some new friends. Don't be afraid to start playing a game by yourself - get out there, meet people! Its fun!

Still great, but the game took a big hit IMO when people could create almost perfect if not perfect templates.  Balance requires weakness.  Besides that tho, I have never had any gaming experience like RvR.  I was prolly one of the leetist  jerks that everyone loves to hate but,  those 8v8's with two high RR skilled guild groups going at was so much friggin fun.  I wish another game could deliver that type of experience, but I doubt one ever will, a person's first good experience is always the best.

Easily the best of any game. I wonder if WAR will surpass it. Playing DAoC    -REALLY-   makes me regret grinding to rank 14 in WoW and focusing so much on its pvp.

As many have said already, I think DAoC has, hands down, the best PvP system around. The reason I feel it's the best is actually quite simple, the battles have meaning and ramifications, and the rest of the game was built around the PvP/RvR system.

The PvP/RvR battles in DAoC actually have an effect on each and every player in the game. Whichever realm holds the most keeps got access to Darkness Falls a huge dungeon w/ great loot, and whichever realm held the majority of relics were rewarded w/ some realm-wide buffage. It isn't like WoW w/ it's meaningless battlegrounds and arena where the outcome only affects the individual by giving them points or a higher/lower rating. The PvP/RvR system in DAoC gives the side you are fighting on a sense of community, togetherness and pride that just isn't there in other games and, to me at least, that means alot.

To me, games w/ "tacked-on" PvP systems like WoW, EQ and such are the epitome of boring. You can't take a game that was designed around PvE, tack-on a PvP system and call it good. It's not good, what it is is boring. I mean, the combat itself might be kinda fun, but at the end of the day the battles you fought against other players really don't mean anything.

Just talking about all this is getting my hyped for WAR. To me, WAR holds soooo much potential. Lets see....a game w/ an updated and advanced version of the meaningful PvP/RvR system first seen in DAoC, set in the Warhammer universe, (hopefully) without all the class-balance issues that plagued DAoC? Ummm, yes please.

The dickheads who came up with the ridiculously overpowered bonedancer class and are to blind to see it are the ones who ruined rvr in the battlegrounds and for solo pvping.  The battlegorunds are full of talentless tarts playing them.

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

Hands down DAoC is the best RvR game out there.

I have tried every dang game out and always come back to DAoC.  Just blows everything away currently out there.

I think Lineage II is a better PvP game than DAoC. I just started playing DAoC and I have never seen a game so imbalanced on every level of play that I've come across yet (Thid and Molvik).

I think RvR is one of the worst systems ever designed for PvP. FFA and Guild v. Guild/Group v. Group (like Guild Wars) is much better.

This game is also very old and its design just doesn't cut it for people who are used to modern PvP MMOs.

The population is also quite horrible. < 1000 real players at any time on the highest population server (cause like 30% of them are buffbots).

Stealth is imbalanced, Templates are imbalanced, I've been 1-2 shot in this game more than any other PvP game that I've played. Solo PvP is impractival unless you are a high armor class with a buffbot because stealthers zerg you (you can't see them). People exploit like nobody's business in the open.

Veteran players can PL any class they want to 50 in less than a day, and equip it with near top/top gears.

The game is dead for new/legit players and we only serve to feed RPs to the veteran zergers, exploiters, and stealthers.

The only thing that the playerbase has to tell you is "play xxx class then", as if choosing a class in an MMO has nothing to do with what you identify with or what you enjoy. It's all about play to win, which is excessively boring.

PvP games are only fun when you can be competitive, and DAoC is not one of those games, not for a new player.

WAR sucks, so I am still looking for a PvP game with good PvE in it (DAoC has okay PvE, not just quest to level, but the PvP is not balanced and the RvR system is boring and augmented by the population issues). I guess it is a shame that no companies are releasing good PvE games, and most of those out atm are quest-to-level solo games like WoW. I really hate that...
