In my opinion DAoC is all about RvR. (Realm vs Realm).

-lvl a character
-making template
-makin ML steps
-doin CL steps
-gettin XP for lvl Artifact

is all about prepearing for RvR to get more and more RPs.
And its good. Not so boring like WoW or the others. We can actualy fight against ppl and got a nice RvR system with taking keeps, siege, 8vs8 grps, RvR land etc...

I love it:D

DAoC got the best PvP system in any game I've played so far. It's quite boring when there aren't enough people online (when you log in too early or too late) but i just love defending a keep against attackers or raiding myself. :)

Has anyone played Guild Wars? I have been a DAoC from the beginning, and have bought other online games just to make sure I wasn't missing anything (EQ, WOW, Matrix Online), but none have the PVP with some skill/level building. Does Guild Wars offer PVP as good as DAoC? I bought GUild Wars and Pre-Order next follow-up expansion, but haven't cracked the seals yet (so returnable) but would very much like some advice from others who might have played. I guess I don't want to be EverCrack addict to DAoC, but I don't want to switch games just to find out that I wasted a bunch of money on shitware w/PVP promises.

Any advice solicted. Yes, I have heard Eve Online is good but haven't checked out their 2 week offer.

Pls advise,

Darknite of The Fellowship of Tristan

Sure , I play GW in my spare time or if im feelin it, but its not a game you want to have as I guess your "main" MMO, also PvP is pointless unless your in a great guild (Which are hard to egt into without being a high rank) but ranking is nothing either you dont get cool weps or abilties u get animal emotes ROFL.

DAoC has the best end-game anywhere.

GW is ok but I stopped playing after about a month and a half, I can't get myself into is since everything is instanced and I don't really have that many friends that play it.  The speed of leveling and the time to cap is good but as stated previously on this thread unless you are in a great guild it falls short.

Especially since most of what I've seen in GW is all about Group vs. Group and not like in DAoC where it is Realm vs. Realm.

Does your guild have a website yet? Find out how easy it is to get one.

DAoC is still the best in Rvr/PvP since 2001. I like Guild Wars also. I think the only Game that have the Power to break the DAoC First Place is Warhammer Online. We will see :)

RvR is NOT real PvP. I am an avid PvPer and just dont get how you can enjoy RvR. NF is far too big for the tiny playerbase on most servers, so much so that RvR players are now 'making their own fun' by allowing enemys to hold keeps in their frontiers to allow instant porting in back to the action after dying or "iRvR".

The only way you can solo is to be a stealther and to go wander around bridges looking for other stealthers to duel, and hope not to run across a stealth zerg, or get popped in front of a group. Apart from that, soloing is impossible. You could play small groups as in duos or trios and end up getting rolled by a high RR FG if thats your thing.

Basically, the only thing left to do in RvR now is to get into a mega-meights IRC/TS/IRL 8-man guild, roll til you get rolled, then bitch about it on forums.

Seriously though, with most of the community being leet 8v8 dontaddonmyfightsnoob fanatics, why not just play guildwars and get your instanced completely fair teamed up PvP?

Because instanced = boring as hell

DAoC PvP/RvR owns. I prefer 8 man or small scale group fights during low pop hours...but don't mind running as caster in the zerg as long as there is an enemy zerg to fight.

If nothing else I can solo on all my classes except my savage really...and well I'd have to respec the healer for it

The RVR system is awesome in DAOC.

The implementation of it has problems now with lower populations.  Mythic has done the smart thing by merging servers to increase populations in pvp areas and help in the pve stuff.

The statigic locations and bonuses bases on capturing and holding items is a great idea.

The two weaknesses:

1.  Population needs to be close.  Albions tend to outnumber the other 2 realms and thus throws the balance out.  It is no longer a 1v1v1 but more of a 2v1 in realms in order to get closer in population

2.  Solo or small groups doesn't really fit the rvr model.  Since DAOC has been around so long, the people who have played so long together are in gank groups and are equiped so well you don't stand a chance.  There really isn't any solo fights or even 2-3 man fights....everything is 8 man groups or larger.

Plus side, they have lower level battle grounds that seem to be much better fit and more balanced.  I have played in Thid for 4+ years and I enjoy the balance and can still get a lot of fun out of the game from time to time.

Best PvP of any game.  I hope WAR will have something similar to this so I will have a new game to play.  If WAR doesn't they should really make a DAoC 2 because the game is awesome except the graphics are just outdated as hell at this point.

A simple truth-"What people want and what is good for an mmo is not always the same thing"-mrw0lf

I just came back after a long hiatus, and hit Thidranki for the first time last evening.  It was really quite fun to be back in the action. And I was totally surprised by some of the changes, like when the Albs blew a whole through the CK wall in one shot using some sort of Trebuchet from across the river.  That really added something to the game....

So far, DAOC Rvr/Pvp is still the best combat system I've experienced (ok, I never gave Eve or UO a try...don't shoot me)

As a DAoC player since within a few months of release 5 years ago, I think that DAoC has the best system of RvR/PvP. This doesn't mean I think it has the most enjoyable. Players are now spread so thinly across the servers it is nearly impossible to get the same action as you used to be able to. If there were as many players as there were even 2 years ago, I think it would be much more fun and exciting.
