Before WAR, there were people like this:

"YEAH YEAH WAR IS GOIN TO BE DAOC 2 AND IT'S GONNA BE EVEN BETTER THAN DAOC! YEAH! MAYBE IT WILL EVEN CRUSH WARCRAFT!"

This is in exaggerated form, but this is what people did nonetheless. Was WARhammer anything close to DAoC 2? No. It was completely different. I wouldn't say it was a success either. The buggy unfinished mess WAR was, was an embarrassment.

Years I've been begging Mythic to fix Dark Age of Camelot up. Fix the netcode and player ghosting and so forth. Years people have begged for Origins, a DAoC 2, or something to replace it. Warhammer was all we got. Hmph...

There appears nothing coming that will be "to be next." It's over, I think. I only see World of Warcraft ever since it came out and nothing seems to be coming anytime soon in the future.

I recently found out there's this F2P MMORPG that uses the Dark Age of Camelot engine called Regnum Online. After playing it for 2 hours, I found that the models and animations were poorly made. There was also no jump key in the game. "Players can't jump in Regnum" I received from another player, after asking in server chat. Yet, this wonderful game that came out in 2007 that I had no idea of its existence until today, the March 7, 2010, has better and fixed movement net coding and no player ghosting issues that were abundant in Dark Age of Camelot. Remember, it's the SAME ENGINE.

If an indie free to play game company can take the same code and fix their game's netcode, this means Mythic could have fixed Dark Age of Camelot ages ago and DAoC is still a subscription game. A free to play MMORPG running on the same exact engine is better than the pay to play one!

What's sadder is how Mythic relies on forums like these. There are no official DAoC forums. Only fan made ones. I hope Mythic stops making video games because they clearly show they're only greedy money hogs who lazy about doing nothing to work on their games. Just sit back and take money from people.

I played DAoC for 4 years from its initial launch day. I also bought 4 expansions. 3 out of the 4 were a waste of money. Shrouded Isles was the only one worth anything.

Cynical? Me? Never.

IMO, the original DAoC was either;

A) A complete fluke - I base that off the decisions that led the game in the direction it is today. ToA and NF were total failures. A lot of fans try to blame WoW for the death of DAoC, but ToA and NF were its death.

B) lost a significant dev - again who in the world though of ToA and NF? It was clearly not the same person who made classic DAoC and SI.

Once DAoC turned into Castalot and Raidalot the game was doomed.
