Famous last words... "I will poke it with my sword!" |
This game has it all. An amazing quest system, fun quests, amzing PvP (RvR) and amzing geography, huges cities and good graphics. There is, however, one fatal flaw that ruins the whole experience. There simply is not enough players. It is impossible to find groups, trade or quest. I tried trade skills but there was nobody to buy my stuff... If the game had more players then it would be ultimate. Sorry about the poll. The last option was supposed to be "No!!! I can never find a group!" Just answer there is enough if you wanted to say no.

I was randomly reading through a DaoC forum a couple of weeks ago, to see gear, spec, and all other mmorpg discussion. The lack of players is devastating to them. One poster who managed to round up some numbers reported that there are less then 3k players left. That a combination of european and NA servers. The main culprit is Warhammer. There is less than 3k left. There never was that many but 3k... The most you will find on one server is 1000 players. And spread through 3 realms.... There is less than 300 players per realm. And most of them are on PvP so if you like questing (me) than youre screwed. |

Used to be this game was so crowded you had to wait in line for spawns and RvR/BGs were so full it was hard not to level out of several BGs in a weeks time or less. Now, I am afraid, that this game has lost it's appeal to those that acquired Mythic. Instead they made another game to market along side of it. In most circumstances it would not be an issue, especially for a game of such calibar as DAOC, but they never introduced anything fresh or new into the game to help give it a fighting chance at retaining it's sub base. The good news is, however, that in the last two months of watching numbers they have not declined any more. They have infact risen by about 700 over the course of that time. When WaR released the numbers fell dramtically down to almost 1000 US players spread across all the servers, now as I check it (which I do very often) I see that number has increased to around 1900 US players. If given time and a little bit of a facelift (coughoriginscough) I beleive that DAOC could once again see it's glory days relived and flurish even in the midsts of such over whelming releases that are forth coming in the next year.

Originally posted by TheHavok Wrong, the main culprit is Mythic. They killed their own game with bad expansions and now they are letting it bleed while they tend to WAR.
A combination of /level 20 and the ToA expansion is what killed DAoC.

Actually there used to be tons. DAoC was EQ's main rival, and they were the two top dogs. Sad to see how badly Mythic messed up. |

Yeah ToA was bad for the game, but you have to like Mythic for at least admitting it and making a classic server. Other companies would've just said to bad players, we are the all-knowing mmo company, you will play what we tell you to play. That is the thing I've always liked about Mythic, they listen.
