Conquer Online: Ninja Class Discussion

The folks from TQ have provided us with this interview concerning the upcoming introduction of the Ninja class into their MMORPG, Conquer Online

MMORPG.com:

What will the character’s maximum level be in the New Dynasty expansion?

Conquer Online:

The level cap will be raised from currently 137 to 138. At incredibly high levels like these, every tiny edge counts in the deadly PvP battles that ensue.

MMORPG.com:

Will players who are starting anew during the expansion be at a significant disadvantage over those who have played Conquer Online since the beginning?

Conquer Online:

Not at all. They could start a new account today and rise up to join the legendary PvP champions within months. However, it does require a lot of skill to go toe-to-toe with the PK heavyweights, so it’s not advised until players are willing to take that risk.

Moreover, Conquer has a unique mentor system which encourages veterans to help new players. Finally we will open more new servers to let all players start on a level playing field.

MMORPG.com:

How do you feel the casual gamer will be manage with the new expansion’s release?

Conquer Online:

We expect that they will manage just fine. The game won’t become more complex or difficult to understand, just more varied. There will be even more choices for a player, so that they can get more “role-play-gaming” into their “RPG”. The new skills, items and quests all present opportunities for players to act out their characters and make decisions based on their preferences.

MMORPG.com:

What can players expect of the new log on interface, will there be additional features to it?

Conquer Online:

We will add brand-new traditional Chinese paintings and background music to enhance the ambience of this rich cultural setting.

MMORPG.com:

In addition to the adding the new hairstyle changes to players, can we hope for any additional player controlled changes to appearance?

Conquer Online:

Players will have new dresses, portraits and hair styles for the character customization. TQ team will work tirelessly on this game to bring new and interesting feature to our players.

MMORPG.com:

What was the rationale of adding Ninja class

Conquer Online:

When development of the New Dynasty began, we decided to add a totally new class to the class roster. We considered several other classes as candidates and polled on our forum. Eventually our designers and players had a consensus to choose the ninja. The ninja was perfect for the theme of Conquer Online’s New Dynasty.

Conquer Online’s background is set in ancient mythical China, a rich and evocative setting of kungfu and culture. While ninjas were developed to their zenithin feudal Japan, they share oriental compatibility with the game’s theme.

The story of Conquer is that with the ambition of domination, an evil guild rose up to spread the terror and chaos in the world of Conquer. To oppose them, brave people began to assemble and restore justice to the world. Conquer’s universe is a place full of conflict. In an environment of chaos, ninja’s thrive. So, these stealthy assassins have arrived on the shores of the middle kingdom to pursue perfection in their art of ninjutsu.

MMORPG.com:

As the second dual wielding class are there concerns of the Ninja class being overpowered?

Conquer Online:

As a PvP oriented game, the damage dealers are the most desirable by the players. Players are trying their best to level up characters, skills and gear. All they want is to enjoy Conquer’s immersive PvP. If your character can’t dominate in a player versus player combat, then it is pointless to enhance it. So currently the dual-wielding Trojan is the most popular character chosen by players. To satisfy this demand, we decide to add the second dual-wielding class in the expansion.

However, we want Ninja to be distinct different to the Trojan. In stark contrast to the Trojan’s heavy armor and highest HP, Ninja has light armor and low HP, which makes them the most fragile class in the game. Moreover, unlike Trojans, ninjas possess several ranged skills which can help them carry out guerilla warfare. So our goal is to create an interesting damage dealer, without replacing the Trojan. The ninja won’t overpower other classes, but it will provide a new gaming experience to players both old and new.

MMORPG.com:

There seems to be concern that the Ninja will replace the Trojan in game, is there any credibility to that claim?

Conquer Online:

Well, whether there is credibility or not, nobody except the TQ designers will know until the class debut. It’s a bold and daring move to introduce a new class to an established system, like throwing a spanner into the works! But I must say it is a very exciting development and we’re all keen to see how it unfolds.

MMORPG.com:

Is there a concern that there will be an overwhelming shift in the game to Ninjas?

Conquer Online:

Not in TQ, there isn’t. Outside TQ… possibly? Maybe you can visit the game forums and find out!

MMORPG.com:

Can you tell us a little more of the “much much more...” advertised on the Conquer Online website?

Conquer Online:

We will add new monsters, new maps and new quests to bring more fresh elements to our devoted playership. You can always be on the lookout for news updates and clues as to what upcoming features might include!

It looks like the interviewer did his best with what he had to work with in this game. The videos of this game show really "Midway" like gameplay from 1980 requiring quarters as someone said before.

About the best thing can be said for this MMO is it created jobs for someone, somewhere in the world and thats a good thing in this economy.

and this..

Level 138? Man, that's a lot of cash shop items to buy. I'm sure you aren't beating the top guys in this game without real cash. Wonder how much the top players (level 138) spent from Level 1 to Level 138.

There are barely any people that are 137... The highest monsters ingame have been about 126, so leveling to 137 takes forever.  DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME.  It is a massive money sink.  Free to download and log on, pay to get anywhere.  The game went from great, to crap because TQ got greedy as hell.
