    Beginning on Saturday, December 12th, some big, big things will be happening with Shards Online during this weekend’s Pre-Alpha 3 event. The NDA has been lifted temporarily through the weekend so that fans and potential backers can get a first-hand look at the upcoming sandbox title from Citadel Studios.   • Player Housing Unique in the MMO Space

    Player housing in Shards Online is unique for many reasons. The biggest reason is because your house and the decorations/furniture/trophies you put inside it are more real than in other MMOs. Everything you find or create as you explore the worlds of Shards Online can be used to decorate your home, inside and out, to make it stand out. You will hire NPCs to work on your land as guards, merchants, or even an apprentices to your craft.

    Since their successful Kickstarter last year, Citadel Studios’ Shards Online has largely gone dark in terms of PR and outreach. Contrary to other KS games with multi-million dollar budgets, they’ve been focused more on making the game that adding pledges, because their staff and budget dictate as much. I caught up with Citadel’s Derek Brinkman to chat about the state of Shards and their plans for Alpha and Beta this year.

Under development by Citadel Studios, Shards is being billed as a new generation in sandbox multiplayer gaming. In fact it made such an impression on the team around here that it was awarded the Best Indie MMO at PAX this year.
