decent looking graphics but was annoyed by the constant flicker in the video. I realize it was purposeful to give you glimpses but i didn't even have enough time to see what was in the glimpse even FOR a glimpse lol.
never tried AO but heard that people liked it. Kinda hard to bring back players on games with such big splashes on the horizon. GW2, Secret World seem like the best bets. Both are standing out highly so far and in this saturated business you NEED to do that.
I admit, those are huge improvements, especially with the more dynamic lighting. The problem I had with AO wasn't (just) graphics though, I didn't really like where they took the gameplay with later expansions. I might give it another try, though, just to see what its been doing with itself after all these years.
ya like a poster above said good business move , will it really be good graphics hell no but improved sure , to be honest though that video i just watched was fluff/ a virtual propaganda video desgined to make it appear impressive .....just show us a before and after character model and let the mehh/'s start.....but hey it was a really impressive MMo for its time and shadowlands was the debut of the instance a feature we could not do without so ya...super
Don't forget the HEAVY over-use of HDR & Bloom effects. These are the industry standards for hiding bad graphics behind blurry crap that hurts your eyes :(!
Every game needs moar lense flares, bloom, HDR and godrays. While they have enabled some possibilities with the new engine it still looks quite freaking terrible imo.
When AO came out, it had bad graphics. Today it has truly horrific graphics. Very soon though, it will have awful graphics!
Tue Mar 27 2012 11:47AM ReportWau! It looks so nice now. I will try when new engine is ready
Tue Mar 27 2012 11:49AM Reportevery true mmo player knows a mmo is about the gameplay not the graphics you want graphics pick up a console game or a solo play game.
Tue Mar 27 2012 11:51AM ReportI never did get a chance to try AO. Now, I can and it'll actually look good too! :)
Tue Mar 27 2012 11:52AM Reportand they been talkin about this new game engine for like the past 4 years i really think they need to quit teasing now.

Tue Mar 27 2012 12:27PM ReportIt's a smart move. They basically create an entire new game with just an engine update. And with the F2P model they will draw in plenty of players.
It's the cheapest way of making AO 2.0 really.
Tue Mar 27 2012 12:52PM ReportDoes not look bad at all. I guess I'll reinstall it just to wait for this patch.
Still, I wish they would focus on making AO 2.
Tue Mar 27 2012 4:32PM ReportBIllmurphy hasn't played AO? oh nooooooo..blasphmy! gaming gods are angry with you Bill. Repent.
Tue Mar 27 2012 4:38PM ReportI wish Funcom would stop trolling us!
P.S. is Riposte skill still broke? ;) j/k
Tue Mar 27 2012 4:50PM ReportLet's stop calling this a "New" engine.
at best it's a replacement used engine.
Regardles, it's still old. Just less old than the current.
Tue Mar 27 2012 6:12PM Reportya like a poster above said good business move , will it really be good graphics hell no but improved sure , to be honest though that video i just watched was fluff/ a virtual propaganda video desgined to make it appear impressive .....just show us a before and after character model and let the mehh/'s start.....but hey it was a really impressive MMo for its time and shadowlands was the debut of the instance a feature we could not do without so ya...super
Tue Mar 27 2012 6:22PM Report@Exterminos
"to be honest though that video i just watched was fluff"
You mean like how every scene in the video was drowning in the over the top usage of "God Rays"?
Tue Mar 27 2012 6:50PM Report@GeeTeeEffOh,
Don't forget the HEAVY over-use of HDR & Bloom effects. These are the industry standards for hiding bad graphics behind blurry crap that hurts your eyes :(!

Tue Mar 27 2012 11:52PM ReportLooks nice. Might have to step back in when that goes live.
Wed Mar 28 2012 12:32AM ReportIs that the new engine or the old engine.. cause from here it still looks old as hell.
Wed Mar 28 2012 2:16AM Reportyeah, umm what killed AO for me was terrible combat system....update that!
Wed Mar 28 2012 1:13PM ReportWhat's with the choppy video? Hard to get a good look when it's all jerky.
Wed Mar 28 2012 3:00PM ReportWill definitely try it once it's done.
