Funcom has announced that they have launched virtual items sales in Anarchy Online on all servers in a new mini-expansion. Among the new items that will be made available are hover boards and bikes, pets, social clothing, and more.
Durham, USA – October 12, 2007 – Funcom has now launched the virtual item sales in Anarchy Online. In yet another progressive move from Funcom, the players on Rubi-Ka are now able to purchase sets of points which can be used to acquire virtual items inside the game. The first virtual items introduced with the program come packed inside a new mini-expansion. Amongst other things the new pack includes hover-bikes, hover-boards, social clothing, pets and a luxury apartment. Our focus is to ensure that the virtual items do not affect gameplay balance.
The points are available in three different packages which can be purchased for 10, 20 or 40 USD / EUR, where 100 points is the equivalent of 1 USD / EUR. A new hover-board starts as low as 300 points, but the players can also purchase an entire range. As an introductory offer the players can purchase the entire new collection of boards and bikes for 2000 points.
“This kind of system puts the choice in the hands of the players by allowing them to take as little or as much of the new content as they like,” said Craig Morrison, Game Director on Anarchy Online. “It really adds an extra dimension to what we can provide in terms of fun social items, designed to look cool while being something players don't feel forced into. That extra element of choice has allowed us to add a much broader range of items than we might if we were simply targeting it into a self contained expansion.”

i swear this game was ahead of its time it truely was a awsome game ijust cant subscribe and try to catch up i imagine its hard to find lower level folks to play with , anyone still playing it on these boards?
A lot of people playing it. But I doubt you will find lot of low levels
Sponsering RMT sales is not progressive, it's regressive. They just killed the game.
It's still one of the most detailed and Complex (but not Complicated) mmogs around. I jumped back in about 9 months ago and was surprised by the TONS of players on the noob island training area. Some weekends it was TOO crowded! Even in the main game the low level Subway area always had 5-10 people milling around the entrance and running around inside. It reminded me of the goode olde days of some other mmogs where, if you were soloing and got into trouble, passersby would stop and help fight or throw a heal or buff on you. Fun!
So yes it's still possible for new players to start / restart and find low level groups because many of them are re-rolls and secondary characters of long time players. Plus most players were friendly (or at least tolerant) and helpful answering noob questions, not a bunch of jackasses. They even have active GMs monitoring the game - the first time i logged in to noob isle, after about 20 mins a GM toon appeared in front of me with a Welcome Greeting explaining some of the basic commands and asking if i had any questions.
For an old school classic mmog it's Highly Rrecommended.
I have no problem with that as long as the items for sale are "FUN" stuff. The hoverboard are not needed to be succesful in the game, like anything in life, if you want to have a luxery item you need to pay for it. However i would not approve that if they force peoples to buy needed items.
atleast read up before you declare a game killed.
I don't care what it is, fluff in your opinion or not. It's a slippery slope and each person has an opinion on what is an advantage and what is not. A flat subscription rate or in-game genre appropriate advertising are the only two forms of revenue which maintain a level and fair playing field which is critical for MMOGs.
yah social clothing and vehicles that cannot be used in a fight are a huge advantage tilter in this pvp based game...
like i said before....
and dont forget funcom was one of the first to make a partnership with ebay to not allow ingame sales for money. hell that alone makes them head and shoulder above most of the rest of the gaming companies. now ppl wanna bitch about ingame items that have nothing to do with a level playing field...
It's fair... Anyone can pay for the items. Doesn't get any fairer than that, well not really, but it's fair.
RMT is a bad idea no matter what the effect of the things on the game.
But I guess since it's free unless you have the expansions its the only way to keep the game alive without charging sub fees to the people playing for free.
Makes me wonder if they'll extend this to things that do matter when fewer and fewer people are paying to play.
dude if anyone knows how to make a game survive, its funcom.

this is a great idea. absolutely a good idea.
