Earlier this month Funcom announced that the All American Rejects would be headlining an in-game concert in Anarchy Online. They have now released more information on the concert event which will be held this Sunday.
Durham, USA - August 10, 2007 - Funcom is proud to reveal the world's first MMO concert delivered via in-game video feed delivery. The popular US band "All American Rejects" will have a unique virtual concert for the many citizens of Rubi-Ka this Sunday, perfectly merging technology and music from the 21 st century with a game set 25,000 years into the future.
While some games have had virtual avatars of bands performing in their virtual worlds, this will be the first known concert via dynamic mega size screens, delivered through technology developed by Microsoft Corp.'s Massive. Gamers will see the band's performance, hear them and be able to mingle in the giant concert arena specifically designed for this historical event.
The concert is available free of charge to all players of Anarchy Online, and all they need to do to see it is to opt to toggle on viewing of the commercial advertising billboards in the game during the event. New players to the game can simply go to http://www.anarchy-online.com to download the free client, but since the event is secured via a sponsorship deal with a major U.S Telecom provider it can only be seen by North American gamers. With time Funcom hope that it is possible to expand the offering to global users, as well as providing other encore events.
Craig Morrison, the Producer / Director on Anarchy Online stated, "Virtual world entertainment is definitively expanding, and this historical opportunity to bring a concert to our players is something we have wanted to do for years. We know how much our players love music, whether it's the award winning soundtracks from the game, listening to the in-game radio station GridStream or bringing their own, and now they will get to experience yet another level of interaction thanks to Microsoft Corp.'s Missive's unique technology."

And people wonder why kids are fat and lack social skills. If you want to see a concert get off your ass!
Uhm, news correction:
Live concerts have already been done in Second Life (via streaming); perhaps not to the scope as reported above.
So this is not the first time it has been done.
"Funcom is proud to reveal the world's first MMO concert delivered via in-game video feed delivery."
Article doesn't say they're the first to have a live concert. They are the first to do ingame video feed delivery via Microsoft's "Massive" system.
To britzban Like every single person has the time and money to go to a concert :)
TAR has a few good songs. Move Along for example. But I don't play AO anymore.
Id personally rather go to the actual thing, but watching an in-game concert does have its advantages. For example, not having to stand for hours on end or getting squished to bits.
Activate PvP in the area and watch the mosh pit. :)
OR desires to do so in the first place....
What a stupid comment. This site is about MMORPG, for once a game developper is doing something new, offering it for free, and you get comments like that ? You go do your excercises, your on a mmorpg site, peoples play this games, who are you to tell them what they should or should not do ? Like seing a live concert is more healthy, YEAH !
looks like hes sitting on his ass being a troll coming here accusing others of what he does
I think the idea is cool. When I played AO I always hoped they'd use the video screens for something like this. I wish it wasn't All American Rejects. I can't stand that band even if they are from my home state.
I have to add a comment here though that seems obvious to me but seems to ellude others. The point of an in world concert is for the ability to watch the concert with friends in the online community. The fact you could watch this on tv or in real life is not the point at all at least i don't see it that way. It adds to the social community which is very active in Anarchy Online. There are already parties on an almost nightly basis in world at least there was when I played last year. This just adds to that.
