I''ll snatch you bald-headed! |
No, you do not want to put points into Fling Shot for a bow shooter. No matter what class you start this as. Good luck affording arrows. |

Or pistols. Fling shot would be appropriate with pistols. |

You can go Bow if you like but adventurers have no special buffs for increasing their bow skills and very little (even with expansions) that boosts that skill for their profession (Tier3 Chest and Infantry Symbiants are about it). Adventurers have profession buffs for 1h-edge & Fast Attack (melee) and Pistol & Fling (ranged), as well as Multi-melee/Multi-ranged buffs. This, along with their green IP bars for those two skill lines make them the obvious choice for weapons. Those with expansions also get perk lines and assorted buffing items for those skills.
Martial Artists who PvP develop skills for Bow (for the Aimed Shot special) and have a few buffing items and nanos that help equip bows (again, mainly in expansions) Meta-Physicists also frequently use Bows. They don't have any particular aptitude for them (or any weapon line, for that matter) but the implant clusters used to boost Bow skills have little conflict with their important nano skills. Expansions allow for quite a few Bow-boosting items, as well as some powerful MP-specific Bows now. |

Traders can be very interesting professions to play. There are 2 major ways you could play them, either as a tradeskiller (crafter), or as a PVP damage dealer. Don't try being both though or else you will find yourself running out of Improvement Points fast. They can pack quite a bit of punch if fully set up for DD, as they can buff their attack rating very high with drain nanos. Main weapon of choice is shotgun. |

Whatever role you want to play as trader in the end, you still have to level through PvE. So you might want to forget about tradeskills untill later level. During midlevels you will have a shortage of ip to spend on your skills. And your main skills will need every ip then. Check the profession Academies on the official forums. Lot of good profession guides there. No need to follow them to the letter of course, but it will show you what the strong and weak points from a profession are. For a first character as froob, you will notice that the more nano crystals (they get expensive) your profession needs, the more expensive and difficult it will get to level. Also the weapon makes all the difference. For soloing, Martial Artist and Adventurer are the most noob friendly. Relatively low costs and good survivability. If you are planning to find an org (guild) early on and prefer to team, then any profession will do with a little help of your org mates. |
