Asheron's Call 2 : Fallen Kings News - Olthoi Activity

Posted by Jon Wood on Oct 11, 2005  | 2 comments in our forums

It would seem that today is a busy day oin the world of in-game news. Asheron's Call 2 has released a news report coming out of Fort Strathelar.

Fort Strathelar, Knorr – Yesterday, another group of Olthoi Soldiers was reported in the Fort Strathelar vicinity, this time seemingly greater in number and accompanied by a more powerful ally, a Swarm Princess. Many witnesses reported another first; a Summoned Portal in the same area. A number of intrepid explorers passed through the Portal, confirming that it did indeed bypass the Shield Wall, likely explaining the recent Olthoi incursions on Knorr.

Luckily, the portal did not last long enough for an overwhelming force of Olthoi to get through, and Dereth's bravest were able to put down the invasion force, including the formidable Swarm Princess. Tar Minastir of Frostfell commented, "I don't know who or what summoned that Portal, but now they'll know that such tactics will not work. We waxed those Olthoi, and we'll do it again if they dare to show their faces on our land."

The incident raises questions as to the assumed security of the Shield Wall. Giles Beaudry, reknowned Empyrean Archaeologist, provided some background on the Wall's history. "Ages ago, the Shield Wall protected the citizens of Knorr from the brunt of Olthoi activity from Knorr's wildest Region, when Dereth's citizens lacked the power to wipe them out for good. We believe the final assault never materialized, but the Wall was always guarded by very powerful magic, preventing non-sentient creatures from crossing. Now, there is a dark cloud on the horizon of that protection. A cloud in the shape of a Summoned Portal."

Polauri, a wise old scholar of Hakata, fears the implications of this new development. "The recent theory that Olthoi have learned to use portals is, in and of itself, disturbing. A Summoned Portal, however, is far more alarming, because I can think of only two explanations. Either Olthoi have learned to summon their own portals, or someone with the knowledge is actually assisting the Olthoi. There is no lesser of two evils here; either possibility is terrifying, and I just hope for the sake of Knorr that I'm overlooking a less dangerous explanation of the situation."

They'll probably have it like the CoH or WoW end beta, where everything is invaded to ultimately shut down the game. Only way possible to end an MMORPG instead of simply 'pulling the plug'.
