i never got to play AC2 ..altho i did playAC i hear they were completely different ..is that what killed it? or was it wow? or maybe a mix of both ..do you guys think they would ever bring it back as a f2p title..soo much money and time spent to make this title..if i remember correctly it was one of the better high end grafic games that was out at the time..i put up a poll to see if any would be interrested..would you play yes or no? i for one would love to try it out..it closed down soo fast and never had time to ever live

would you play AC2 if it was re-released?

yes if it was f2p
yes if it was p2p
no it was never good

It was always a game I wanted to try but never got the chance. Sad.

I'd highly suggest this game. It's a great game. It was for it's time anyways. I can't see why that AC3 or a remake of AC2 wouldn't be a success if some company took it up.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

It was a beautiful game with briliant design and another example of how game companies are complete morons. AC2 was shut down because they were afraid it was hurt the population of their current cash cow AC1. It is the same reason UO2 was cancelled.

Same, still have the original box and everything inside of it on shelf.

As for what made it shut down? most likely the lack of funding.

It had a lot of problems at launch. The chat was always broke it seemed and the rubber-banding was insane. I loved the game and when the expansion came out I thought it was actually doing well.

I loved that you could convert junk loot to gold on the fly without having to go to town. A blessing and a curse it seems since it made towns useles. I believe it was Turbines first game to use the high-res textures.

Playing a drudge towards the end was a lot of fun. I miss the game.

From my time in AC2

How do you suggest something that's over with?

IMO AC2 would work and turn a profit if they used the same model as LOTRO and DDO.I think it would be a smart thing for them and tbh kinda surprised they haven't the game is already done it has just as good graphics as DDO and LOTRO.They could even do a thing like Station Access for there 4 games and make a profit.I know if they ever did put AC2 back out again I would subscribe in a heartbeat.

Main reason it failed as someone else said it changed alot from what AC1 was the chat was a mess at release MS forced Turbine to release the game and it wasn;t ready at all but when you have MS the company backing you and saying put it out you have no choice.

Visit LOST COMPANY AC2 fansite!

AC2-Forever!

AC2 was a kind sandbox but no sandbox you where free no npcs with ! above head no instance but great quest system and awesome grinding with fellowship of 9 players a you could grind for months and still not boring.

Classes where unique with great skill system and no elfs no dwarfs or orcs, but awesome TUMEROKS (my favorite) LUGIANS and humans(not my favorite race).

You could find music instruments and go to cragstone and just stand next to nexus and in no time many other players start playing with you or dance.

Flute guitar violin drums many different music instruments to play.

Dye armor craft on the way sell on the way no need to waste time to go to npcs.

World was open and you could go anyware on continent but still if you dont wanne waste time in travel you had portal system.

Well its needless to say so many great things in this mmorpg that its a shame it ended,

One of best graphics for iits time when released beautiful looking world you can't believe your eyes they could manage that in 2002.

the real reason why Asheron's Call 2 died was because Turbine released it at the wrong time. When AC2 came out it forced everyone to do a hardware upgrade, and the response was "Why upgrade when the games i play now work well with my current vid card". If Turbine re-released AC2 now it might succeed.

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

I'm a major Turbine fanboi and a big fan of Asheron's Call. That being said, I appreciate all the advances in MMOs we got from it, from the UI to LOTRO's engine, but AC 2 itself just wasn't a game I liked or would recommend to anyone... ever.

I was REALLY disappointed with AC2, after playing AC1.  It just... didn't feel right.  ... and it wasn't just the 'You love your first MMO the most' thing going on, I liked Anarchy Online, DAoC, and WoW (at first, though that wore off pretty quickly) and CoH...

... I just didn't like AC2.  Even from the beginning.  It took me a couple days to decide that it was just missing the awesomeness of AC1.  Even though I kept playing it, I never changed my mind.

From my understanding...

First problem was that AC2 was nothing like AC1, it was more an EQ clone than anything else.

Second problem, it was horribly mismanaged. I mean, there wasn't a chat client for MONTHS.

This viewpoint is coming from someone that bought the game on day one, and cancelled in about two weeks.

Firstly, it was nothing like AC. All the things that made AC great were missing.

Secondly, there were no NPCs. No merchants to sell your goods, nothing.

Thirdly, I found the crafting to be very tedious, and coming from EQ I was already very cautious about avoiding timesinks.

Granted, I didn't play long, but those were the top 3 reasons that made me quit.

This game was not an EQ clone. If you never played AC2, why would you even say this? Why would you even respond to this thread? Trying to sound hip?

I'm also not sure what Garvon means by "no chat client". Maybe you meant the issue about the chat server being down quite frequently? Never experienced that myself, but did read about it.

I'm just going by what I've heard other people say. I've often heard people say it was a lot more like EQ than AC. I've also read about how the entire chat system broke down and went unfixed by Microsoft for over a month. An MMO with absolutely NO chat. THAT surely hurt the game.

It's not all that surprising, I don't have much respect for Turbine after what they did to Middle Earth Online.

All ac1 players accept me are mainly haters and can't see beyond ac1.

AC2 was in its own way a very good mmo but microsoft ruined it for most part.

There still many AC2 fans out there who would love to play it again. In many ways it was unique and hibrid sandbox game, no instance, no hold hands, no npcs with ! above head total freedom unique classes and races, and awesome skill system plus great combat. Superb graphics even today it would and can comepete with many mmo's out there.

AC2 made a TON of early mistakes.  Thing is by the time they fixed them the game was over.  AC2 was targetted more at a mainstream WoW/EQ audience with the thought that the AC1 people would just come along because it was AC.  They were wrong.  The AC1 people wanted AC1.2 not AC 2.  They made a major mistake not having critical NPCs at the beginning.

Now that people have significantly lowered expectations of what they are looking for in an MMO and have significantly more beastly machines -- yes AC2 if it were re-released would have a following.

Better if it were called Dereth's Rebirth though as opposed to asheron's call.

Thing is Turbine had better things to do (LOTRO and DDO at the time) and still does.

They would need to sell AC2 for this to happen.

----

I still would like to see an asherons call // horizons crossover title... AC3 the dragons of dereth.

Ac2 was closer to sandbox then themepark in sense of no instance no npcs with ! above head no guidance and on Darktide free for all pvp.

But it was not a real follow up to AC and thats what most AC fans wanted back then.

AC2 had rather Unique classes like tact and great skill tree to use as you want, alot of freedom in this game.

No dwarfs elfs or orcs but awesome RACES like TUMEROK and LUGIANS plus not so awesome human race:P

Great quests system plus grind that was in this game never boring.
