Why did you even complain? Does it bother you that much?

They will delete it soon. E&B's forum was up for several months after it died.

The official AC2 site is gone now. Ok I agree we can close this board. It's almost 4 months now.

I think they should leave it... for like a headstone, to come back to from time to time

5 years later and I *still* miss this game...can't we bring it back? nothing else compares.

Meet people from all over the world... then kill them.

I agree. Don't give up hope, Turbine's transformation of DDO into a partially F2P game might be a good sign. The fact that they are using something called "Turbine Points" rather than a name from D&D might just be to leave their options open for LotRO, but since that game's doing fairly well I wonder if they're looking at AC1 getting on in years and weighing their options.

On one hand, they could close down AC1 as well. Most people view AC2 as a failure, but shutting down 2 of their 4 games will make it look like a habit, and it's going to make people wonder if LotRO is a good investment of their time.

On the other hand, they've got these two games which are where the company came from, and a third game in the series would benefit from a wealth of existing material plus the familiarity factor. The minute they cancel AC1 that name recognition starts to erode and it's not the one game that was a failure but the whole Asheron's Call universe. It makes more sense to treat one - or both - as nice bonuses in a package deal similar to SOE's Station Access.

In my heart I know they won't do it, for reasons too unkind to post here, but like I said we can hope. I'm afraid, though, that it looks like the precedent is set. A dying MMO isn't something you sell back to its creator - as Microsoft did with AC1+2, or open up to the community as they did with Allegiance. That unique and strange act of decency is a distant memory now, meaningless in the shadow of Earth & Beyond, Auto Assault, Dark & Light, and now in the space of just a few months Tabula Rasa, Shadowbane, and The Matrix Online. It turns out these aren't works of art to be preserved or even entertainment to be repackaged and sold off to small-timers. We're going to treat them like restaurants. They run their course, you bulldoze them, and the owner or chef takes the recipes home and locks them up somewhere.

While I wouldn't rule out that AC2 can't be revived, I have huge doubts.

Economically speaking, in order for AC2 to be brought back online, it has to be profitable, even if its running on skeleton resources(server, devs, support, etc...).  I wish devs with niche products such as AC2 would be willing to eat some of the overhead, especially if they have other successful games - but that is probably an accounting nightmare in and of itself.

Turbine still hasn't given up on AC and is still loyal to the original.  Don't be surprised if Turbine attempts another AC game in the future(I'm no insider but its just a hunch).  The game has huge brand recognition amongst MMO vets and coupled with their success with LotRO, they've become a highly respected developer (they lost cred with AC2 and DDO - which is underrated IMO).

AC3 would be perfect in a steampunk setting!!!

Ac2 with legions expansion was improved alot and worth playing again but becouse turbine after they launched legions after 2 months pulled the plug so almost nobody have seen or played after legions went live.

If you look at many mmo´s these days out there, AC2 can easely compete with many of them it still looks great and witha darktide server it would be awesome.

Make it free to play with item shop for fluff items to buy i say it can be succesfull!

Indeed. It has to make the Turbine folks feel damn good, even if in a bitter-sweet way, to see so many people still passionate about AC2 so long after it was taken offline, nevermind those who have never ceased asking them to bring it back. I know I'm among those who would still love to log into Dereth and have done my share of groveling :-p

Given that the server is up again, and goings-on elsewhere... really makes me wonder what's actually going on. I have suspicions, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

Regardless, it's awesome to have a place here to discuss this gem of a game again :)
