If they had released AC2 10months later around time when heropatch sept-2003 was launch you would have had a complete different story prolly chat would have been np people would not have stand in east-gevoth outpost complaining whole day there is nothing to do, people would have quests quest grind to lvl, after hero patch there was alot more to do ingame then before lvl 50 cap. And in mean while turbine working on legions that would have come more quickly then, game would have prolly survived beyond 2005, people by then would have had better pc's and would see the true potential of what ac2 realy looked like with full hi res. |

I loved this game when it was first released, but patch after patch it got steadily worse. The 2 things they kept trying to fix and made worse constantly were the rubber banding stuff and the chat server. By the time I left the game, those issues alone had sucked most of the life (and people) out of the game. I also remember Turbine bringing on some new developer to help with the problems with the crafting system. When one of his patches broke the entire system, he responded on a message board that "He didn't know it worked that way". It was really a beautiful world, the early gameplay was pretty interesting, all in all, and I really enjoyed it for a few months before it all went south. This coming from an EQ fan who never could 'get into' the original AC - I really had low expectations going in, but the game ended up becoming a favorite for a while. It seemed like Turbine made 2 mistakes with AC2 - first, the support/development team just seemed overwhelmed trying to get basic game systems working right. I think that was right around the time Turbine got the LOTRO franchise rights, and most of the talent was moved to that project (could be wrong here, it might have been DDO, not LOTRO, can't exactly recall). Either way, the people brought in to fix the game's systemic problems were not up to the task. Second, at a point WAY to early in its lifespan, Turbine decided to pull the plug on it. Maybe if they got the first part right, the 2nd wouldn't have happened, who knows, or maybe they just saw more future $ potential with some of the new IP they had acquired.

Well when legions was launched game was very polished and much better then its first year. Game was killed by Microsoft AC1 fans and lack of advertisment plus all the negative publishity it got over years and with turbine screwing over there own fans by letting them buy the legions expansion then announce 2 months later they pull the plug it was over for AC2:( There is even today a huge fans base for this awesome game that never got a real chance to shine and show mmo world that AC2 was not a extension of ac1 but a mmo on its own and a GREAT mmorpg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJUpxFuY-zg AC2Forever! |
