In tomorrow's second half of our Final Fantasy XIV interview with Square Enix's Koji Fox, we'll learn that the team wanted players to have a more "adult" experience while playing the game and that adding drugs and booze as a way to unwind was integral to providing that.

Fox starts by talking about FFXI and that devs were bound by the game's rating and age descriptor. Players, he said, would go out "killing and massacring and adventuring and then coming back to the pub for a nice...juice..."

As a result, when Square started on FFXIV, the conversation changed. "Are we going to have the same age restriction? And we got told "no, no, no". If you drink alcohol and get powered up, that automatically pushes your rating up because it makes alcohol good....same thing with smoking...and these drugs being sold illicitly..."

Fox has a lot more to say on the subject, so be sure to check out Final Fantasy XIV: Koji Fox on What Makes Eorzean Lore So Important Part 2 tomorrow! Also, be sure to check out part 1!
