A Werewolf in Eorzea

Halloween is here! At least, FFXIV’s stand-in festival, All Saints’ Wake, is. As with previous years, it’s more trick-or-treat than genuine Friday the 13th. But that’s OK! You’ll be paired up with Soga, an Othardian wolfman who’s travelled to Gridania following the liberation of Doma.

Having come to the realisation he’s a scary looking fellow, he’s decided to join the circus. Players, somehow, get enlisted in this process, which involves scaring as many passers-by as possible — with the world’s least-threatening voidsent pulling the strings...

An odd byproduct of this event is that Gridania resembles a furry convention right now. Players are gifted a werewolf outfit in order to appear scarier and required to write ‘Grr’ or other feral noises in chat as they confront people. Embarrassing? Yes. But it’s pretty funny to see tens of people pretending they’re anime wolves, and you to keep the werewolf costume afterwards.

Worth noting is the return of the excellent haunted-take on Haukke Manor from last year. It’s in no way linked to the rewards — or even the quest — but completing it will net you tokens for housing items. If you didn’t do it last year, it’s well worth checking out. Square Enix hasn’t done anything like it for the events since, and it’s one of those things that’s worth experiencing because it’s so different.

The event ends November 1. You can find out more at the minisite here.

As a reminder, the Unending Coil of Bahamut (AKA Ultimate or Super Savage) goes live Tuesday October 24. It’s worth keeping an eye on Twitch when it does; the race for world first is typically one of the most exciting times to care about PvE content in this game.
