In addition to giving their Playonline homepage a new holiday look, Square-Enix has given us a quick peak at their latest update planned for December 16th, 2003 (on a Tuesday). There are many exciting changes that are to be made in this update, including an increased level cap from 70 to 75 (Square-Enix does not currently have any plans to raise the level cap beyond 75 however). The proposed "limbo areas" will probably not be making a debut into the December update.
Just in case you were wondering, the developers of Final Fantasy XI have explained a little bit about the new "limbo areas". Essentially they are high level areas in a sort of alternate dimension, requiring multiple alliances (3 groups of 18 people) to successfully navigate through. Only time will tell what these limbo areas will hold, but it looks like we'll have to wait a little bit longer to see them.

I highly encourage you to read the article put out by Square-Enix, as the changes they are making are quite numerous in amount (so numerous, Square-Enix hasn't even listed them all yet).
